This weekend the fourth round of the ACU Metzeler British Enduro Championship took place in Llanybydder in Mid Wales when the Dyfed MCC played host to the Brechfa Enduro. The Dyfed MCC had worked hard in the lead up to the event and arranged for the parc ferme to be set up undercover at the Evans Bros livestock market.
After weeks of mixed weather that’s covered the majority of the country of recent weeks, all riders were glad to awaken to the sight of clear skies on Saturday morning. Saturday’s event started with the riders setting off at 9:00am and the event was scheduled for the Championship class to complete 4 laps whilst the Experts were to complete 3 laps and the Clubman 2 laps. Current Championship leader Greg Evans started the day well and opened up a good sized lead early on. The early stages of the event caught out a number of riders and forced them to retire from the event and the rest of the weekend’s action.
At the end of the opening day Greg Evans dropped down to second place following a number of mechanical dramas. This left Danny McCanney in position to take the victory on day 1. Third place at the end of the opening day was Tom Sagar ahead of Paul Edmondson and Daryl Bolter in fourth and fifth places. In the Expert class it was Steve Halcombe that took the victory ahead of Jack Rowland and Alun Jones. Robert Johnson was the best rider on day one of the Brechfa in the Clubman class ahead of Declan Heliwell and Aled Price. In the Veterans class Wyn Hughes continued his fine form and took the victory over Phil Smithson and Paul Sagar.
Following a busy night with many riders having to rebuild bikes and rest in preparation for Sunday, the day started in much cooler conditions and it was Greg Evans who took the early lead but following the cross country test it was Tom Sagar who took over the lead by 14 seconds and the victory ahead of Greg Evans and Daryl Bolter at the finish. Fourth place went to Saturday’s event winner Danny McCanney and Jonny Walker in fifth. It was Jack Rowland that took the win in the Experts ahead of Steve Halcombe and Lewis Belfield.
In the Clubman Class Robert Johnson took another victory this time ahead of Fraser Flockhart and Aled Price in third. Wyn Hughes again took the win in the Veterans class by over a minute, with Paul Davies finishing in second place, third on the Sunday went to Paul Smithson.
