Mark, who is now responsible for the running of the Junior and Senior TeamGB squads after the ACU took the decision to create a unified national Motocross programme that will support and accelerate the development of youngsters, confirmed some difficult selection decisions had to be made this year.
He said: "It’s never easy picking TeamGB riders, but we’ve chosen what we feel are the five best riders in each class to try and secure the best results possible.
"There were some difficult decisions to make and some very good riders won’t be joining us on this occasion. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of the beast.
"With those that have been selected, I think we’ve got a very good chance of being in the mix, and they should be very proud that they’ve been given the chance to represent their country and their national federation in the ACU."
Fourteen-year-old Joel Winstanley-Dawson, who is the reigning British 85cc Big Wheel Champion and currently sits third overall in the British 125 standings, said: “I'm really happy to be selected for TeamGB again after traveling to France with the squad in 2025.
"Last year's event turned out to be a mud bath, but it was a great experience, and I'll head to the Czech Republic knowing what's required this time out.
"I feel really good on and off the bike at the moment, so the ambition is to go over there with the TeamGB squad and score some good points. I reckon we've got a talented team, and I think we can have a strong event."
The FIM Junior Motocross World Championship format means riders will compete for individual class titles in the Czech Republic, before results are combined to determine the team standings.
TeamGB have yet to win the Junior title outright but have finished on the third step of the overall podium in both 2024 and 2025.
Mark is hoping this year’s squad can put in a strong performance at MX-Enduro Park Jinín which is located 75 miles south of Prague and hasn’t hosted the world’s best junior riders since 2013.
"Jinín is a track that’s known for its demanding, hard-packed, natural terrain and technical character,” he explained. “I think it should be good for our guys so we’re hoping for a good outcome."
Mark and coach Stephen Sword, who are also overseeing the ACU’s High Performance Academy programme for Motocross riders, are planning to organise a TeamGB rider meet up in the UK to put the finishing touches to their Junior World Championship plans, before riders then shakedown their machines en route to the Czech Republic.
