This Sunday the Phoenix Tools Premier Motocross Championships makes its first visit in the series into Wiltshire to Cusses Gorse, Nr Salisbury for round 5. This venue has hosted many top events over the years but this is the first time that the Premier Championship will have taken place here, so expectations are high.
In the MX1 Championship John May who would of rode this track many times leads the proceedings by 52 points over Welshman Andrew Gillett who goes into round 5 with a lead of just 5 points over third place man, Belgium star on the Phoenix Tools CCM Maarten Cremers who had a brilliant last round at Little Silver. Others lining up in the MX1 class include the likes of Luke Hill, Darren Shears, Sam Chapman, Darren Banwell, Luke Blanchard, Tom Harvey, Greg Hanson and local star Ben Milward plus wildcard entries from the likes of Ben Griffith who’s back from Australia, Gareth Rees-Jones, Daniel Latham, Chris Wratton and many others. In the MX2 class Jamie Skuse increased his Championship lead at the last round to 42 points and will be looking to do well again at Cusses, but hoping to close the gap will be the likes of defending Champion Luke Mellows, Wayne Shimell, Luke Norris, Nick Wadge and Harry Snow to name a few plus Wildcard James Dodd who’s back again after his performance at Little Silver hoping to put a cat amongst the pigeons. In the over 35’s Martyn Tucker was to dominate the last round and now leads the Championship by 23 points from Keith Hanson, but not so far away in 3rd is Chris Brown who has recently found form and could be one to watch along with the likes of Mark Roberts, Rob Lewis, Mark Rowe, Greg Brooks to name a few. In the Junior Championship we saw Championship leader Bill Farleigh extend his lead to 59 points at the last round with a hat trick of wins over Michael Rowe, but things could change as there is plenty of up and coming riders lining up beside them. Cusses Gorse is an excellent viewing track with easy parking and will be signposted off the A303 at Countess Roundabout, Amesbury with the first race at 11am. There are still a few spaces left in all classes, for more information give Mel Martin a ring on 01626 365335 (PLEASE NOTE NO DOGS ALLOWED AT THIS VENUE)
