Bayliss Utting Bags Overall At Lyng!
On Sunday 7th June, the Norwich Viking MCC hosted round 4 of the 2026 ACU Eastern Centre Mx championship at Cadders Hill, Lyng. Backed by sponsors Stebbings Car Superstore and Rackhams Auto Body Centre, the NVMCC had the tough task of preparing the track with rain falling for most of the week prior to the event. They did a fantastic job as the track looked in prime condition, ready for 200 riders to do battle at the historic venue.

With Tom Grimshaw winning all of the nine Expert races so far in 2026, the rest of the pack would've been somewhat relieved to see him not entered into round 4, so it was a chance for the chasing pack to close the gap. Callum Murfitt started the day brightly as he took pole position in a stacked expert line up.

Race one in the expert class would see Travis Steels certify his excellent starting credentials as he grabbed the holeshot and led the opening few laps. Max Broadbelt and Bayliss Utting were putting pressure on the leader early on and that pressure finally told, as Steels would make a crucial mistake and yield the lead dropping down to sixth in the end. That handed Broadbelt the lead and he set a relentless rhythm at the front to take the race win. Bayliss Utting rode a solid race coming home in second ahead of Luke Parker who had his hands full for all of the 20 minute duration, but remained strong to finish third. Josh Peters finished in fourth and Murfitt in fifth.

Race two would have to be restarted and once the gate dropped for a second time, all the heavy hitters were towards the front apart from Broadbelt who was buried at the back. Utting would pass Steels and set out on checking out at the head of the pack. Josh Peters got a good start and also found his way past Travis Steels as he looked to chase down Utting.

However it would be to no avail as Utting controlled the race to take the win in fine style. Peters would take second ahead of Steels in third. Luke Benstead put on a real charge in the latter part of the race and managed to finish in fourth, with Callum Murfitt in fifth.

The final Expert race would see Travis Steels emerge with the early lead while Peters and Utting were battling behind. Utting soon made his way past Josh Peters as Calum Murfitt’s machine failed him on the finish line with a few laps left leaving him out of the race. Steels rode the perfect race and took the chequered flag after knocking on the door over the last few rounds for a race win. Bayliss Utting finished in second ahead of Peters In third. Max Broadbelt came home in fourth and Luke Parker in fifth.

The Expert overall went to Bayliss Utting with 69 points. In second place was Travis Steels on 60 points ahead of Josh Peters also on 60 points but losing out on 2nd spot to countback.

In the Junior Championship class, the overall would go to current championship leader Craig Down who extended his points lead with 3-1-1 for 70 points. In second overall was Sam Rogers with 51 points going 10-4-2 and in third was Benjamin Arthurton with 46 points with a 15-3-3 finish.

In the Support B class the overall went to Darren Gooch with a 2-4-1 ahead of Scott Claydon in second with a 1-2-4. In third was Sam Cornwell going 15-1-2.

The Support C class overall went to Finley Whitlam with a 2-1-1 ahead of Dale Herod in second with a 9-4-2. In third place overall was Ethan Cone with a 6-2-7.

In the Support D class the overall honors went to Andrew Webster with a 1-2-3. In second place was Shaun Tacey with a 11-1-1 ahead of Tony Rooke in third with a 2-5-9.

The NVMCC would like to thank all sponsors in what is the clubs centenary year with the next meeting at Lyng on Sunday the 26th of July!
