Watson on the Box at Finningley

Following a week of diligent preparations - many thanks go to the hard working members of the Cambridge JSC led by Chairman Kevin Hearn and Jayne Edey. Also full appreciation to Ed Bradley and the DMP track prep team as they all together delivered the perfect setting for round two of this year’s BYMX series. The action at Finningley in South Yorkshire proved to be just as glorious as the weather with all five classes on show providing top quality entertainment.

Alexander Brown on the Moto One KTM claimed three heat wins in the 65's but lost his championship lead following a bag of mixed fortunes in his other two outings. Jed Etchells took one heat win and the overall victory together with the series lead going 2-2-3-1-4. Harry Wichman with a typical gutsy display on the Danger UK Cobra claimed the other race win and second overall. In third place the Twisted Seven Kawasaki piloted by Harry Kimber. Brown totalled in fourth overall with Colin Scott on the money in fifth followed by Callum Meara in sixth.

In a tale of two different days Jay Hague and Conrad Mewse dominated the proceedings in the Small Wheel 85cc section. Hague claimed both moto wins on day one with Mewse turning the tables on Sunday with all three heat wins on his card. Hague won the day however courtesy of his better overall card. Durham lad Hague now shares joint top spot in the Championship standings with Mewse. Sid Evans and Jordan Eccles had a weekend locked together in the top four results over the five race stretch but Sid just got the vote for third overall. Jack Camwell and David Keet were equally matched for fifth and sixth places respectively.

Jack Gardner (2), Tom Neal, Robert Davidson and Brad Todd were the four different heat winners in the Big Wheel 85cc class - with Gardner claiming the winners spoils following a truly enthralling weekend battle. Neal took second step on the box followed by Davidson Liam Knight, Todd and Matthew Callaghan. Gardner now gets himself firmly into the championship race as Tom Neal takes over the series lead from Liam Knight in second.

The Youth Open class proved to be meaty beefy big and bouncy as high rollers Bradley Pocock with two heat wins - equally matched by Nathan Watson with two - Ryan Houghton with one, and Jamie McCanney all went bar to bar in a classic contest. Pocock on the Dixon Yamaha together with Houghton on the HM Plant Red Bull KTM proved to be the fastest over the two day piece but ill fortune dropped Houghton down to eighth place overall and Pocock down to third. Both Pocock and Houghton suffered the frustration of stubborn hot machines that failed to re start following slight misdemeanours. Both guys however featured in the best race of the weekend - moto four that Pocock won by a hairs breath as both guys flew past the chequers side by side. Watson and McCanney fought their way through the field time after time to eventually claim positions one and two respectively with Watson as the more than worthy winner and new Championship leader by 12 points from Mc Canney. Following a weekend of rapid gating and steely determination fourteen year old Adam Sterry got his just rewards with fourth overall as Jordan Divall entertained for fifth with Mark Perfect again going well for sixth overall.

In the British Two-stroke championship KTM runner Carlton Husband claimed 250cc honours after jumping over the head of most of his opposition in some quality races. Husbands 3-1-1 card was enough to beat Ryan McLean. The 125cc class was won by Luke Remmer, aboard a Mike Forster tuned YZ125. Luke scored three classy wins in his division while mixing it with the 250cc front runners
