British Trials Championship
Anthony Rew Trial
Round 2 of this eight round ACU Events sponsored series get underway again with the Anthony Rew Trial down in Devon. The organising West of England MCC have been given an earlier date in the calendar this year and this gave them some discussions on where to run. After some deliberation it was decided to run once again at Kelly Farm, Lustleigh which is not far from Bovey Tracey. If you are travelling down from the north keep on the A38 after Exeter and then look for the Bovey signs some 10 minutes later and you will find the venue signed from the A382 Bovey Tracey to Moretonhampstead Road
. Car Parking is excellent and close to the action which will involve some big granite boulders, possibly strewn with a little moss to make things that little bit more tricky. A short climb from the car park will get you right in the middle of the action and if the organisers put in last year’s section 3 which they usually do expect to see some action for the Championship runners as the boulders here take few prisoners.
Practice is on Saturday2nd April between 3 - 5 pm and then the trial proper will start on Sunday 3rd at 10 am when the Youth and Expert B groups head out followed a short time later by Expert A and then the Championship riders last.
Each rider has 2 hours 30 minutes to complete their first lap and a 5 hour 30minutes overall time allowance.
With the first round held up at Westwood a few weeks back we now have a guide to form in each of the classes. Although it is still early days Guy Kendrew looked every bit a class act in the B Championship and his win was not unexpected after some good early season rides on the new Ossa. Sherco’s Richard Timperly was second last time out with Buster Regan third but this class has always been very competitive and there are any number of riders capable of making the podium.
Ricky Wiggins was new to the A Championship in 2010 but having won the opening round in 2011 he must be more than pleased with his progress. Look out for Beta mounted Jack Spencer also in this group he is always there or there about and a win must be a possibility this season. He once again looked consistent at Westwood as did Eastbourne’s James Fry. Also with the added entry of Jack Sheppard in the A Class it should add to the excitement, Although this class does not have the biggest of entries it is always worth watching and don’t forget that the youth riders do the same sections as the Senior A’s.
That brings us onto the Championship class that has been dominated by James Dabill over the past 2 seasons. He started 2011 with a win at Westwood with Michael Brown second and Alexz Wigg third. For this round of the Championship young Jack Challoner has entered in the Championship class. Can there be an upset or will Dib’s carry on taking the premier. It is worth a trip to Lustleigh to find out.
