Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club Ltd staged Round 5 of the Colin Appleyard British Solo Trials Championship at Brimham Rocks, Summerbridge, on Sunday, August 2nd 2008.
The weather changed the riding conditions on Sunday for the MacKenzie Trophy contenders after a dry and bright Saturday. Sunday morning brought the winds of change as rain softened the ground and mud became a major factor as tyres dragged a slimy coating onto the tough rocky sections.
It made not a jot of difference to Dougie Lampkin who merely emphasised just why he has taken so many World titles. For Lampkin it was his first British Championship event this year. Even Italian Trials Champion James Dabill trailed the Silsden rider by 15 penalties at the conclusion of the trial. Shaun Morris completed the podium with Championship leader Michael Brown taking 4th place. Graham Jarvis fared badly with a lowly 5th place which has allowed Brown to extend his lead over Jarvis to 4 points.
Barnstaple Birkett Scorpa rider Joe Baker took the Experts victory, and the 20 points that went with it, as 17 year Jack Challoner finished 2nd, but, set the best lap of just five penalties. Baker now heads Challoner in the standings.
16 year old Jonathan Richardson beat his British Youth Championship rivals in the Youth class. Jack Sheppard could not match the Richmond youngster, on the day. Youth national Champion Class A Ben Morphett was a strong 3rd.
The next round of the Championship will take place on September 7th at Hook Woods, West Horsley, where the Thames Motor Club will stage the penultimate round in the Series.
