ACU TrialGB regulars Harry Hemingway and younger brother George – both riding Beta machines – filled the first two places at the end of the brand-new Yorkshire Urban Trial on Saturday (23 May). Harry Turner took the final podium place on his Sherco machine.
The Otley Showground in West Yorkshire hosted the very first running of the Yorkshire Urban Trial which was promoted by Danny Cockshott and Jack Lee at CL Events.
Nine competitors went head-to-head at the event, including British Trials Championship stars Jack Dance (GASGAS), Billy Green (Scorpa), Harry and George Hemingway (Beta), Jack Peace (Sherco), Harrison Skelton (Scorpa) and Harry Turner (Sherco). Bringing an international flavour to the event were riders Arnau Farre (Sherco) and Aniol Gelabert (Sherco).
The event ran to a knockout format with the riders competing over six man-made sections designed specifically for spectator enjoyment.

Qualifying rounds opened the action before progressing into a semi-final phase and a six-rider final in which competitors would attempt the sections in a race against the clock. Riders were eliminated throughout the event to leave the four best performers to battle it out in the final.
Qualifying One got the action underway with all nine riders competing over the six sections against the clock. The fastest rider would then start last. As with any timed element, the riders felt the immense pressure, but it was Harry Hemingway who went round the quickest followed by younger brother George and Farre.
The vast array of man-made sections then pushed the riders to the limits and after Qualifying One it was Harrison Skelton who was eliminated. The semi-final phase produced some spectacular riding as Harry Hemingway once again led the way on 11 marks lost with brother George next on 12 along with Turner.

Through a process of elimination for places in the final, the next to be sidelined from the event were Green, Dance and the two foreign riders, Farre and Gelabert.
Watched by an estimated 3,000 spectators, it was time for the four-rider final as Harry Turner took the final position after a battle with eventual fourth-place finisher Peace.

In the final, Harry Hemingway took the win on seven marks lost, but it would need a tie break decider section to split George Hemingway and Turner – both on 10 marks lost. The tie break went in favour of a delighted George to make it a Hemingway one-two in their home county of Yorkshire.
Harry Hemingway said: “It’s been a super event and one that I’ve enjoyed taking part in. The sections were extremely challenging, and the event pushed me to the limits of my ability.
“Performing in front of my ‘home’ supporters made me very proud and it was so good to see such a strong crowd enjoying the occasion. I want to thank everyone involved and especially Danny and Jack for bringing the event to Yorkshire.
“It was also a pleasure to perform in front of so many of my sponsors who continue to support me. Big thanks to all of them!”
The event proved to be a huge success, showcasing motorcycle trials at its very best, and it was fantastic to see so many spectators being entertained on the sections and enjoying the trade stands, food vendors, a bar and live music afterwards.
Yorkshire Urban Trial spectators were also treated to a youth motorcycle demonstration during the event interval which provided a great platform for the next generation of trial-riding stars to show their skills.
