Air Ambulance Week returns from 7–13 September, bringing together the UK's 21 air ambulance charities to highlight the lifesaving care they provide every day. Led by Air Ambulances UK, this year's campaign reminds us that Every Mission Starts With You -because every emergency response is made possible through the generosity of supporters.
Across the UK, air ambulance crews are now collectively dispatched to 137 missions every day, more than 50,000 missions every year. Of those, an estimated 8,590 involve road traffic collisions, including around 1,828 incidents involving motorcyclists, underlining just how important these services are to the motorcycling community.
When the worst happens, air ambulance teams bring advanced hospital-level care directly to the roadside. From administering advanced pain relief and blood transfusions to carrying out emergency anaesthesia and other critical interventions, their expertise gives seriously injured riders the very best chance of survival and recovery.
Despite being a vital part of the UK's emergency response, air ambulance charities receive no day-to-day government funding for their operations. Instead, they rely almost entirely on donations, with the average lifesaving mission now costing around £4,748.
