Team GB have successfully powered through day five of the 2013 International Six Days Enduro in Sardinia – the last full day on the trails – making good times and getting all riders home safely. With the gaps between the teams well-established Team GB has held onto third place in the Juniors and sixth in the Trophy competition. Tomorrow, the final day, sees a short liaison stage followed by the week’s finale, a mass-start cross test. ACU GB ISDE Team Manager, Dusty Martin: “Not an easy day today, it was the same course as yesterday – so not too much to keep the riders entertained – and of course there’s that eternal pressure not to make a mistake. We got all our lads back in good shape, though. That’s not something that guaranteed as sadly Team Australia’s Trophy squad found when they suffered a last-minute upset with a rider having a mechanical issue and losing five minutes. That’s not a major on the face of things, but with the times between the top five so close it’s virtually cost them what had looked like a certain podium finish. That’s a tough one to live with.
“So tomorrow we’ll have a gentle ride out to the motocross track for the final cross test. It’s a mass start test, so it looks like a motocross, but it’s still based on times not positions. For both our teams they’ve got a substantial time buffer both above and below so they should be able to relax into it and enjoy the ride. A good way to finish off a tough week’s competition.
“It’s been a great week and our teams have done a sterling job. Credit also to our club teams who have had a good week – the SACU Scottish team have been flying – and I trust they’ll also all enjoy tomorrow and come home safe.”
