McCanney challenges for the championship
It can’t get much closer – with a double win at the Natterjack Enduro at the weekend, Manxman Jamie McCanney (Midwest Husaberg TE250) has substantially narrowed the gap to the lead of the 2013 ACU British Enduro Championship. With just two points separating Junior Enduro World Champion McCanney from series leader Tom Sagar (Colwyn Bay KTM UK 450EXC) the championship will now be decided at the final round, the Diss Enduro on November 24.

McCanney at the Natterjack was masterful, winning all-but two of the special tests over the weekend. Johnny Walker (Red Bull KTM 300EXC), fresh from his debut ride in the Enduro World Championship, squeezed between McCanney and Sagar on both days.

Subject to official ratification, a number of class championships were decided at the Natterjack. Preliminary calculations show that while Tom Sagar may be fingertips away from the outright title he sewed-up his fourth consecutive British E2 Enduro Championship at the weekend. Jack Rowland (MPS Husqvarna TE250R) retained his British E1 four-stroke title for a second year. And Lee Sealey (Midwest Husaberg TE125) tied-up the British Clubmans Enduro title.

The British Experts title remains close with Brad Freeman and Ryan McLean sharing wins at the weekend and are now just one point apart.

Jamie McCanney: “I’ve been looking forward to riding the 250 in the sand – my practice track at home being sand – and I guess I came into the weekend with high expectations. But it all fell into place, both days were excellent.

“What happens next – at the Diss – well, we’ll see. All I can do is go and and try to win – what Tom does is not within my power!”

Dusty Martin, ACU: “It was brilliant to see such high quality racing at the head of the field. Jamie said to me that the strength of the British enduro scene has really helped him with his speed in the world championships this year. Between the BEC and the British Sprint Enduro Championship he’s getting in a lot of quality competition, and this he says makes a big difference. It’s really bringing on our riders.

“The event was again outstanding, the REME boys put in a lot of effort as always and that’s reflected in the enjoyment of the riders. An excellent event all round.”
