This is a reminder to all riders, officials and organisers of the procedure when a rider sustains a head injury. This applies to many sporting organisations and national governing bodies of all sporting activities have strict concussion processes in place.
If a rider/competitor has been injured and is suffering from Concussion the Organiser is requested to inform the ACU office immediately via email: [email protected], who will place the rider on the medical stop list. The rider must be withdrawn from the event immediately and cannot continue competing.
The ACU office will inform the rider concerned to ensure they are aware of the situation and the return to sport, and also that they as the rider, are responsible for getting a letter from their own GP which clearly states they are fit to compete again in events.
The recovery time for anyone diagnosed with concussion/suspected concussion is as follows:
Over 20 years of age: Excluded immediately from the event and licence suspended for a period of nine days from all competition including practice events
16-19 years of age: Excluded immediately from the event and licence suspended for a period of twelve days from all competition including practice events
15 and under of age: Excluded immediately from the event and licence suspended for a period of twenty-three days from all competition including practice events
In all cases, evidence is required that the individual is fit to participate in competition after the mandatory suspension period which means they will be required to produce a doctors’ letter/statement. This should then be forwarded to ACU Head Office email: [email protected] for further action and a copy kept for the rider’s own records. Only when this has been received will the rider/competitor be removed from the medical stop list.
