The world’s best Trials riders will descend on Anglesey this weekend to contest the fourth round of the 2026 FIM Trial World Championship – and Britain’s Billy Green is hoping he can reproduce the form that earned him a brace of Trial2 victories earlier this season.
The 24-year-old ACU rider got his season off to a strong start as he guided his Scorpa machine to maximum points on day one in Japan and day two in Andorra. Although podiums were harder to come by in Italy last month, Billy is relishing the chance to compete on home soil this weekend.
A former world champion in two classes already (125cc in 2018 and Trial2 in 2023), Billy heads to the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales with a sharp focus on returning to the podium in one of the most fiercely contested classes in the world championship.
“My goal is always to be on the podium,” he said. “I was really pleased with the wins in Japan and Andorra, but the results around those events have been a little below par for me. This weekend is a good opportunity to put that right.”
Competing in front of a home crowd at this ML Events-promoted round adds another dimension. Billy is looking forward to once again experiencing the atmosphere that comes with riding at the highest level in front of family, friends and British fans.
His ride at Geddington in Northamptonshire last year marked the first time the Devonian had tackled a world round on British soil since 2017.
“It's a special feeling to ride a world championship event in your home country and it had been a long time coming before 2025,” he explained. "Having that home support behind you is something you don't experience very often, so I'm really looking forward to it.”
Based at Anglesey’s Trac Mon circuit in Ty Croes, the venue is making its FIM Trial World Championship debut this weekend. With sections spread across the island's rugged coastline alongside man-made hazards at the event base, the exposed terrain, abrasive rock and unpredictable coastal weather could create an event to remember.
“It's a completely new venue and a different type of terrain to what most of us are used to,” Billy said. “From what we've heard, it's going to be a very physical trial because there's very little chance to recover between the sections.
“If it's dry, the grip could be incredible and you'll be fighting the bike all day. If the weather changes, it could become very slippery. But one thing we do know is that with Dougie (Lampkin – seven-time trial world champion) plotting the course, the sections will be well thought out and a good challenge.”
The depth of talent in Trial2 means consistency will be vital in North Wales. And with a strong British contingent of George Hemingway, Harry Turner and Jack Dance all chasing silverware, Billy expects a close contest.
“There are probably 10 riders capable of standing on the podium at every round and a good chunk of that group are Brits,” he said. “That's what makes Trial2 so exciting. One day you can win and the next you might finish seventh. The margins are incredibly small.”
This year's TrialGP of Great Britain will be part of MotoFest – billed as the ultimate motorcycle festival – and is expected to attract a significant audience of two-wheel enthusiasts that won’t have necessarily seen Trials riding before.
Billy said: “Trials is still quite a small sport compared to some other motorcycle disciplines, so introducing it to new people is really important. Hopefully the people attending MotoFest will enjoy what they see, become fans and maybe even have a go themselves.
“Trials gives riders an incredible foundation for any kind of off-road motorcycling, and it's also one of the most accessible ways to get started in motorcycle sport.”
Billy is expected to be joined by 27 other British ACU riders in Anglesey, all competing for honours in different classes.
Harry Hemingway and Jack Peace will be riding in TrialGP, while Alice Minta, Alicia Robinson, Kaytlyn Adshead, Nikita Smith and Sophie Bailey will do battle in TrialGP Women.
Harry Turner, Billy Green, Alfie Lampkin, Ben Dignan, Jack Dance, George Hemingway, Thomas Hawthorne and Jamie Galloway will fly the Union Flag in Trial2.
Max Dance, Harison Skelton, Hudson Ravenhill-White, Max Golla, Mason Vasey, Koby Smith and George Jones will ride in Trial3.
Kasia Pekala-Dayment, Brianna King, Summer Peters, Sophie Ferguson, Lily Butterworth and Matilda Arbon will be keen to impress in Trial2 Women.
