Tom Laycock Motors ACU British Supermoto Ladies Championship Enters Another Year

The widespread popularity of Supermoto is growing and is proven by yet another year ahead for the ‘Tom Laycock Motors Ladies Championship’ which now forms an integral part of the structure of the ACU British Supermoto Championship.

Introduced to the NoraSport line up in 2019 the class has witnessed an increase in female riders grasping the opportunity to take to tracks up and down the UK, from the far north of Crail to the picturesque Pembrokeshire coastline circuit of Pembrey.  So much is the growth in popularity the championship gained recognition as an official Auto Cycle Union title in 2021.

Last years title holder Annemarie Kenyeres clinch the championship in a hard-fought season long battle with second place Danielle Kernick by a margin of just 14 points and as we head into 2022 there is little doubt that there will be plenty of close action to be seen.

With the likes of Jess Mitchell holding a long family history of supermoto, with Dad Andy a multi British Supermoto Champion mentor and coach, through to some of the younger lady riders including Scarlett Robinson, who was signed by FHO Racing BSB Team last year, there is for sure plenty of experience on display in the category.    Scotland’s famous club and festival DJ Anne Savage has made the leap from mini bikes onto a full blown 450 supermoto and once again are showing particular skills that would be the envy of most.

One to keep an eye on for the move into the Ladies Championship is young Ruby Booth who’s been scoring some decent finishes in the pit bike class, and we have some eager riders waiting in the wings to get going in the Bambino class such as Isabel Wingate.

Supermoto is a physically demanding bikesport and its clear to see that the female competitors are a fair match for most of their male contestants, this is supported by top ten finishes in some of the mixed group categories.   Taking on the challenge of fast sweeping tarmac with speeds reaching 100mph, then combined with punishing off road sections, all on slick race tyres the sport certainly does test riders all round abilities and the skill level required.  It’s a fair testament that the lady’s category of the ACU British Supermoto Championship is highly regarded as one of the forerunners of similar championships now springing up across other bikesport disciplines.

With new riders signing up to the Tom Laycock ACU Ladies Championship this year the class will undoubtedly form one of the major features of the overall season and we are encouraging those reading this article to get in touch if they want to take the opportunity to take part, either full season or just the occasional round.

The first round of the ACU British Supermoto Championship swings into action on Good Friday at Three Sisters Race Circuit, Wigan so why not join us all to take in the action.

Friday 15th - Saturday 16th - Sunday 17th April
