Murray Walker

With the sad passing of Murray Walker this last weekend, with many tributes coming in to the “voice of Formula One”, the ACU would like to pay tribute to his first love motorcycling.

Murray was the son of TT winner Graham Walker and followed him into racing but was far less successful however he turned to trials and won a first class award in the Scottish Six Days Trial and also a gold medal in the 1949 International Six Days trial held in Llandrindod.

He became a commentator alongside his father in the fifties, the pair being the voice of the TT, reporting for BBC Radio, when Grandstand took to televising live scrambling in the sixties it was Murray they turn to, his enthusiastic commentaries made household names of Arthur Lampkin, Jeff Smith, Dave Bickers and many more and a generation of scrambles fans.

A true character who spent a life time enjoying motor sport, our thoughts go to family and friends at this sad time.
