ACU Trial 2 battle reaches fever pitch

With just ten championship points separating the top four, the battle for the title in the Trial 2 Class is certain to go to the wire at Elton in eleven days time. Realistically, the battle is likely to be between just the top two, Ross Danby (TRRS) and Andrew Chilton (Scorpa) after the latter hoisted himself into contention with a win and a third position in Devon at the weekend. Combined in the Scorpa rider's win was two best lap bonus points which could play a vital part in the final outcome.

Fourth and fifth place finishes at the weekend has made securing the title difficult for the opening round winner, Sam Connor (Beta), whilst Richard Sadler (Gas Gas) is bouncing back to form with a second and third at Peter Tavy. However, a disastrous first round, by his standards, coupled with the shortened series due to Covid, will make it difficult for Sadler to make up the points in the single remaining round.

After scoring a brilliant second on Saturday, Tom Minta (Scorpa) slipped off the pace slightly on Sunday, finishing sixth, but that was enough to hoist him above Sam Haslam (Honda) who uncharacteristically struggled in the tough Devon sections, despite posting the best final lap on Saturday.

Despite showing some flashes of his previous championship winning techniques, Michael Brown (pictured) failed to push for a podium spot on his Electric Motion machine, but the terrain at Matlock could suit both rider and machine much better.

The battle reaches it's conclusion at Elton on Saturday week.
