Cromwell Trucks ACU British Quad Championship Gets off to a Strong Start
Sunday saw the opening round of the Cromwell Truck ACU British Quad Cross Championship and Zip Racing ACU British Under 21 Championship take place at Milton Park near Northampton.

The event was hosted by ACU Events and overnight rain and selective watering of the track on Saturday afternoon ensured the circuit remained in near perfect condition for racing on Sunday.

With over 20 of the UK’s best Quad racers competing across the two classes including former multi British Champion Paul Winrow who came out to ride and showed that he was still able to make a start and had the skill to run at the front before a lack of bike fitness limited his results.

The opening race saw George Callaway take the first race win of the season ahead of Mark McLernon who charged from 15th on the opening lap to pass reigning Champion Paul Holmes in the closing stages of the race. Holmes secured third ahead of Under 21 rider Tom Day in fourth and Winrow in fifth.

The second race would see Holmes lead from start to finish ahead of Harry Walker who was making up for a poor opening race. Third place went to George Callaway with Carl Bunce and Justin Reid rounding out the top 5.

In the third and final race Holmes took another great start to claim victory from start to finish, along with the overall and Championship lead. Second place went to Mark McLernon with Walker in third along with George Day and Justin Reid taking 4th and 5th.

In the overall it was McLernon who took second overall behind Holmes with Harry Walker in third. The Under 21 class saw Harry Walker take the win ahead of Tom Day and Murray Graham who travelled all the way from Scotland to be at the venue.

Milton Park also marked Ayrton Knowles first British Championship event for the former Youth champion and he managed an impressive 13th Overall and took Rookie of the day award.

In the Youth 250cc support class Robbie Wood took the overall victory with a 2 – 2 – 1 scorecard ahead of Alfie Walker who took the first two wins before having a problem in the final race. Dylan McKenna took the final place on the podium to round off a good event organised by ACUE Events Ltd to get the championship under way in 2019.
