The melting pot is now heating up with mathematics rising to the top of the Wessex Pant Hire ACU British Sidecar Trials Championship after the wet and windy but superb Mel Harrison Trial on Sunday where Kingstone Farm, courtesy of the Shepherd family, formed the backdrop of what was the ninth event in the eleven-round series. It was a repeat of the previous weather situation in Nidderdale on Sunday – cool, misty and with that constant threat of rain which duly arrived just afternoon accompanied with mist on the higher ground.
By the second lap the rain was falling, the hill mist rolling in and the temperature plunging.
The scores on the doors put Tuck and Sparkes on twenty, the Goldings ten on top of that and Oliver Lace and Gaz Temple on a heady forty-eight. The champions had turned up the heat,
William Caine and Sam Baxter posted a strong twenty-one but Baildon’s Nigel Scott and Sam Atherton were ahead on nineteen. Nigel’s regular passenger daughter Gracie-Mae was on a Belgium school trip and distracting her parent with continual text messages requesting a progress report. It is not known whether he informed said daughter of his mistake in the penultimate section that maybe cost him the class victory which would have been his as William Caine and Sam Baxter failed the final section. The Scotts, aided by Sam Atherton in the sidecar, have won the Intermediate championship even with two events to run.
