Brown and Millard take Victory at Wakes Colne
The penultimate round of the 2017 ACU Maxxis British Sidecarcross Championships took place at Little Loveney Hall, Wakes Colne yesterday hosted by the Halstead MCC. The hardworking club members had prepared the track well and with fine, warm weather all day we couldn’t have asked for much more.

In timed practice in the morning Stuart Brown / Joe Millard were fastest with Brett Wilkinson / Dan Chamberlain second and Gary Moulds / Steve Kirwin third.

When the gate dropped for the start of race one the leaders up the hill to turn one were Brown just ahead of Wilkinson with Kinge / Humphrey just to the outside of Wilkinson.  Turn two was the end of the day’s activities for Oldfield / Barnes when their bike stopped.

Brown kept a healthy distance between himself and Wilkinson for the duration of the race finishing thirteen seconds ahead. Kinge held third place for three laps but was then overtaken by Hodges / Ide. They finished in that order but Hodges was over a minute behind Wilkinson such was the pace of the two leaders. The second placed crew in the Experts class, Moulds / Kirwin were back in thirteenth place at the start but came through to finish sixth.

During the midday break Hodges’ passenger was feeling unwell so Dan Phelps stepped on the platform. They did one practice lap before the start of race two but at the start of the race their machine failed and they were out.

After the gate dropped for the second race Grahame / Lloyd were leading up the hill but before turn one Brown, who had the inside line, took the lead with Wilkinson just behind him and Grahame to the outside. By the end of the lap Brown led from Wilkinson, Moulds and Grahame which is how they stayed for the whole race. Again the pace of the front two was such that by the end they had lapped up to the seventh placed rider. With Hodges failing to score Moulds now took the lead in the Experts class.

In the final race Brown once again took the holeshot from Wilkinson and the pair remained in that order for the whole race. Moulds held third with Kinge fourth, Grahame fifth and Campbell sixth. Hodges was right behind Campbell after the end of lap one but just over five minutes to go made a mistake and dropped to tenth.

Brown was the overall winner with a maximum seventy five points, with Wilkinson second and Moulds third. With one round to go Brown now leads Wilkinson by thirty two points. Moulds is in third place and also leads the Experts class.

The final round is at Canada Heights on 8th October.
