Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup Road Races – Sunday

In total contrast to yesterday’s conditions, Olivier’s Mount was dry with clear blue skies as practice got underway at 9.30am.

 

The racing opened with the David Jefferies Trophy B Final, held over from Saturday and was won by Dan Kneen from fellow Manxman Billy Redmayne and Davy Morgan.

 

The second leg of the Phil Mellor Trophy was the first of Sunday’s races with Paul Owen getting the hole-shot into Mere Corner, but it was Alistair Haworth who led at the end of the lap with Owen in second, but pulled in to retire letting Justin Waring into second and Daniel Ingham third.

By lap three Haworth had built a lead of 1.376 seconds from Rhys Hardisty with Justin Waring in third.

At half way Hardisty was in front by 4.5 seconds from Haworth and by lap six the lead has extended to 10.017 seconds.

Justin Waring went out with a machine problem letting Peter Boast into third.

At the chequered flag it was Alistair Haworth, after Hardisty went out with machine problems towards the end of the final lap. Peter Boast took second with Ian Lougher third.

 

The F2 Sidecars were next with Ian & Carl Bell getting the hole-shot and led at the end of the first lap by half a second from Reeves/Farrance with the Ramsdens third.

Lap two and the gap was the same and at half distance it had increased to 0.613 seconds.

By lap four the gap was up to 1.149 seconds as Conrad Harrison moved into third.

By the penultimate lap the gap was down to 0.304 of a second and at the flag it was Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance who took the win by 1.5 seconds from the Bells with Harrison and Patterson third.

 

The second leg of the Classic F1 was next, Ryan Farquhar took an early lead from David Bell as Jamie Coward moved into third on the second lap, the trio continuing to circulate in that order, until the fourth lap when Bell retired allowing Coward into second and Richard Blunt into third.

Coward reduced the deficit to 4.5 seconds by the three-quarter distance, then on the penultimate circuit Farquhar improved the gap to 6.5 seconds. Then at the flag Ryan took the win by 6.3 seconds with Richard Blunt third.

 

The next race the Steve Henshaw Gold Cup was the features race of the programme, Dean Harrison took an early lead and by lap three had pulled out an 8 second lead over Lee Johnston and Ivan Lintin. Lap 3 saw John McGuinness slip off at Memorial and a lap later Michael Dunlop pulled in at the pits.

Ivan Lintin moved into second on the 5th lap and pulled out a 9.8 second advantage on Johnston.

At three-quarter distance the margin was down to 8.5 seconds and at the chequered flag Dean Harrison took the win by 8.8 seconds from 2014 winner Ivan Lintin and Lee Johnston third. Dan Hegarty, Mick Goodings and James Cowton completed the top six.

 

The B Final was won by Julian Tillotson from Callum Ward and Richard Blunt.

 

The fourth Sidecar race was to be a fourth victory for Tim Reeves and passenger Patrick Farrance from Ian and Carl Bell taking their fourth second place of the meeting.

 

Race 18 was the 2nd leg of the A Final of the David Jefferies Trophy for Supersport machines.

James Cowton got a brilliant start and led into and out of Mere Hairpin and at the end of the lap from Dean Harrison and Bruce Anstey. Three-tenths of a second between the first two and a similar distance between second and third.

Lap two and Harrison was in front by 0.551 of a second the Cowton, Anstey, Lintin, William Dunlop and Daniel Hegarty.

There was 2.3 seconds between the leading pair at the end of the third lap, as Lee Johnston moved into sixth.

Lap four and Harrison still led by 2.5 seconds, but from Lintin as Cowton slipped to third and Johnston moved to fourth ahead of Anstey and Dunlop.

Lap five and Lintin had taken half a second off Harrison’s lead as Johnston moved up third demoting Cowton to fourth, Dunlop up to fifth and Tom Weeden now sixth.

A lap later a new lap record by Johnston as he closes on Linton  and Hegarty slots into sixth.

Lap seven and Dean Harrison leads by 3.8 seconds from Johnston, the Lintin and Dunlop.

At the chequered flag it was Dean Harrison by 5.771 seconds from Lee Johnston with Ivan Lintin, William Dunlop, James Cowton, and Daniel Hegarty completing the top six.

 

James Hinchliffe took the David Jefferies Trophy B Final.

 

The penultimate race of the meeting was the second leg of the Lee Pullan Trophy for Supertwin machines went to Ivan Lintin 5.9 seconds ahead of James Cowton and Dan Cooper.

 

The final race of the day and the meeting was the Senior race over eight laps. The opening lap saw Dean Harrison as the early leader less than a second ahead of Dan Kneen and Dan Hegarty with Ivan Lintin a distant fourth.

Lap two it was Dean Harrison 4.4 seconds ahead of Dan Hegarty, the Kneen and Lintin.

Lap three and Lintin was up to third with Harrison enjoying a 7.5 second advantage at the front over Hegarty.

Half distance the gap was 8.8 seconds with positions remaining static.

Lap five the freight train continued with Harrison 9.6 seconds ahead at the front.

Lap six and still the train continued with a 10 second advantage and with a similar situation on the penultimate lap, Dean Harrison took the chequered flag 9.392 seconds from Daniel Hegarty and Ivan Lintin third.
