Brown and Chamberlain claim victory at Wooley Grange

On Sunday the North East Motocross club hosted the second round of the 2014 Maxxis British Sidecarcross championships at their Wooley Grange circuit in Co Durham. Heavy rain in the week before had left the ground quite soft in places which did mean that in some parts of the track there was only one racing line but despite this the track stood up well to the days racing.

In timed practice Stuart Brown / Josh Chamberlain were fastest with Richard Jenkins / Dan Chamberlain nearly two seconds behind in second place. In third were Brett Wilkinson / Steve Kirwin a further 1.5 seconds adrift.

In the first race Wilkinson / Kirwin took the holeshot from the Millard brothers with Brown just behind in third place. Brown was quickly past Millard but he wasn’t able to take Wilkinson until lap two. About halfway round the opening lap Jenkins was out with electrical problems. Jack Etheridge / Scott Grahame having their first ride for nearly two months started in fifth and were soon up to fourth but then came under pressure from Bradford / Peters. With three laps to go the mousse in the back wheel of the Etheridge machine started to break up and Bradford was past. As the tyre gradually parted company with the rim Etheridge slowed even more and finally dropped back to eleventh place. Brown took the win from Wilkinson with Millard third.

The second leg saw Jarvis / Humphrey take the holeshot from Jenkins, Wilkinson and Brown. Brown was quickly past Wilkinson and on lap two Jenkins took the lead. Brown took another lap to pass Jarvis and then set off after Jenkins. By half distance he was right in his wheel tracks and for three laps he made his intentions very clear as to where he intended to make his pass. Then on lap seven he made his move and Jenkins was unable to do anything about it. Jarvis held on to third place until lap nine when both Wilkinson and Millard came past. Brown went on to win from Jenkins with Wilkinson third.

In the final race of the day Brown took the holeshot from Jenkins and Jarvis. Millard was in fifth place but Etheridge got it all wrong and was nearly last. Jarvis held on to third place for fifteen minutes but then lost out to firstly Wilkinson and on the next lap to Millard. By this time Etheridge was up to ninth place.

Brown took the win from Jenkins with Wilkinson third. Etheridge came home in eighth place. With three race wins Brown was the overall winner with Wilkinson second and Millard third.

After two rounds Brown is still unbeaten and leads the championship on 150 points from Millard on 118 and Wilkinson on 112.

The next round is in four weeks time at Landrake in Cornwall on29th June.
