THE PRESTIGIOUS DAVID NIX MEMORIAL MEETING - Cancelled

CANCELLED

After a highly successful start to the 2014 season with the first  meeting the Robert Chatterton trophy held on 4th MAY, Wainfleet and District Sporting Motorcycle Track Racing Club know that Sunday`s David Nix Memorial will be just as good.  With a top lineup of riders coming from all over Briton to ride in honour of the former Wainfleet rider and club member, Carrington-based grass track and speedway young star, who died in action at Kings Lynn stadium in May 2002.

 

Club Chairman Reg Blackbourn said this is a very special meeting, started in 2003 to remember David.  This year it will be the eleventh running of this event which increases in stature each year and an array of top talent is already signed up to vie for honours.  This Sunday’s meeting racing is at the usual top Irby-In-The-Marsh grass circuit, where the club has assembled a line-up of 250cc, 350cc, & 500cc solos and the awesome 1000cc sidecars.

 

Riders include many local Lincolnshire aces and national stars, in the 500cc solo class current club champion Daniel Winterton from Cheshire, winner of the first meeting this year Andrew Whitaker from Dewsbury, Other riders likely to be putting in a strong challenge include Steve Taylor and ex Boston speedway rider Dean Garrod, Jamie-Fenn-Smith and his brother Ben from Sleaford plus veteran rider Ray Wolds from Skegness.

   

The 350cc event features Goergie Wood from Kent, Edward Bales from Norwich and Andy Mellish from Manchester.

Former British Champion York’s David Knowles is the stand out performer in the 250 class. Wragby’s Ricky Scarboro and his young son Kurtis, heading the local challengers.  Other challengers include Nic Crosby of Newcastle and young Jed Collins.

 

In the big guns the 1000cc sidecars, there are 12 top teams including former Masters Champions and last year’s Poacher Champion Rob Bradley with local passenger Shaun Simpson from Wrangle near Boston.  Rob unfortunately missed the first meeting due to his engine not being ready. Winners of the first meeting Gareth Winterburn and Billy Winterburn from West Yorkshire must start as favorites. Local Colin Blackbourn son of chairman Reg will be riding with a new passenger, due to Carl Pugh retiring from racing. Trevor Heath ex Solo Rider will be racing with Kieron Bonner as passenger, only their second time out; they had an impressive first meeting in May.  Also in the line-up are Robbie Wilson with Bradley Steer and Peter Lloyd with Passenger Daz Whetstone.

 

We will have some more impressive racing from the Youth Riders ranging from 6 to 15 years of age. Local who is starting to impress is Mickie Simpson, son of Shaun Simpson, will be racing in the juniors and Motor-cross Class.

 

Racing on Sunday 1st June starts at 1.30pm with practice at noon. With 40 race programme, racing will finish at around 5-00pm with the presentation of Trophies. Another date to mark in the diary is 24th August 2014 Bank holiday Sunday for the ‘jewel in the crown’ The International Lincolnshire Poacher long track.` England’s biggest International off road long track event`.  Already many of the top World and British Long Track riders have signed up to compete for the prestigious Poacher title this year.
