AINTREE SPRINT - 4th August 2013

Friday July 26, 2013 at 12:43pm
The Aintree Sprint, on 4th August 2013, is a resurrection of the Aintree Sprint that last ran in 2011, which unfortunately ran in torrential rain. The sprint is run on part of the old Grand Prix circuit, which saw a number of formula 1 Grands Prix held there, and a number of non championship races. This is where Sir Stirling Moss won his very first Grand Prix in 1955.

Today the course has been updated, and runs alongside the famous Grand National horserace track, between the track, and the stands. It is a timed quarter mile standing start, with classes including classic, road, etc, right up to modern superbikes, all run under the auspices of the ACU, with ACU rules and regulations applying. To make the day even more exciting, there will be trade stands, food outlets and a display and competition of vintage Japanese motorcycles and exotica, run by the VJMCC.

The sprint is the only one of its kind in the North West of England, with the exception of the Hoghton Tower Sprint, which is an uphill sprint. The Promoters, Blackline Sprinting Ltd, a company formed specifically for this event, and to look at setting up others in the future, aim to give spectators a great day's racing and fun.
