Enduro

It is with great regret that the decision has been made to cancel this year’s Hafren BEC scheduled for next weekend, 14/15th July. The cancellation is due to the persistent bad weather and weeks of rain in the area, and no sign of a substantial improvement between now and next weekend. The course is totally saturated, with many parts being un-rideable, and with the growing environmental pressure the club work under with the forestry commission they are afraid that the damage caused may jeopardise the long term future of motorcycle events in the area. Another issue is that the harvest has not been taken off the fields for the special tests and service. This is not a decision that the club has taken without a great deal of consideration, having looked at many different options and potential solutions, none of which are workable. The club would like to apologise to all who were planning on attending for any inconvenience caused, we are as disappointed as anybody. All riders entry fees will be refunded less £5 to cover some of the admin fees and the several thousand pounds loss the club will have to stand as a result of such a last minute cancellation. The club would like to thank Rob Sheldon at Rock Oil North and others who committed their support to the event. If you have any queries please contact us on info@hafrendbc.co.uk

Road Race

The well-known Southern 100 races in Billown, Isle of Man takes place on Monday. Who will be the favorites for picking up wins and podiums around the circuit this year? Following on from his recent Lightweight TT win Ryan Farquhar is on form and will travel to the Billown circuit feeling confident on his KMR Kawasaki’s. Joining Ryan at the Southern 100 this year will be his team Jamie Hamilton. Jamie who is having a great season on the roads this year will be a debutant around the iconic circuit and will look in particular for top results in the super-twin 650 cc class. Looking for good results after a disappointing Isle of Man TT races will be the Tyco Suzuki by Tas team of Guy Martin and Conor Cummins. Both Guy and Conor have achieved top results in the past at the Southern 100, in particular both will look to win the solo championship which Guy most recently won in 2009 after winning the race which contained an absorbing 4 way battle for victory. The Wilson Craig racing team will be in attendance at the Southern 100 this year courtesy of William Dunlop. William who took a race win in the 600 class at the North West 200 and a debut podium this year at the TT races will be confident of taking race victory in both of the 600 supersport races. The reigning solo championship champion around the Southern 100 course Michael Dunlop is back once again trying to win the title for the second year running. Michael now riding for his own team MD racing with help from Mcadoo racing will have his full line-up of bikes with him at the Southern this year which include his supersport TT winning Yamaha R6 and his new Honda Fireblade superbike for this season on the road circuits. Multiple Southern 100 champion Ian Lougher is once again back at the Billown circuit on his ILR kawasakis and his Stewart Smith racing Kawasaki ER-6 for the super-twin 650 cc races. Following on from his superb performance most recently at the TT races rising road racing star Dean Harrison will make his Southern 100 debut on the Ice Valley racing BMW and on the Printing roller services super-twin. Deans team mate at the Ice Valley racing BMW and team manager Paul Shoesmith returns to the Southern 100 after making his debut last year achieving a top 10 finish in the solo championship race. 5th place finisher in the Lightweight TT this year Russ Mountford is entered in the 1000,600 and 650 races on his Northpoint racing machines. Also entered this year is Ivan Lintin who has had a brilliant road racing season so far at Oliver’s Mount and at the TT this year. Top 600 roads rider Roy Richardson is entered on his 600 in the Barnes racing colors and will look for good results in the 600 races around the Billown circuit. Overall the entry for the Southern 100 this year is superb and hopefully weather permitting! We should have some brilliant racing around a circuit that is known as the friendly races.
