2012 Technical Rules & Handbook Changes for Track Racing

Please note the following changes which are effective from 1st January 2012:

? 500cc Solo (for Pre 75 and Upright classes see below) and 500cc Sidecar Motorcycles – must use a 2010 FIM homologated silencer. The only exception are machines using engines not designed for Track Racing where an alternative silencer must be used and will be subject to sound control using the new FIM 2 metre Max method of testing.


? 250cc and 350cc Solo Motorcycles – must use either the 2010 or 1995 FIM homologated silencer. The only exception are machines using engines not designed for Track Racing where an alternative silencer must be used and will be subject to sound control using the current FIM sound control method. For 2013 both 250cc and 350cc machines will require the new FIM Homologated silencer.


? Pre 75 and Upright Solo Motorcycles – must use either the 2010 or 1995 FIM homologated silencer. The only exception are machines using engines not designed for Track Racing where an alternative silencer must be used and will be subject to sound control using the current FIM sound control method.

? 1000cc Sidecar Motorcycles – will be subject to sound control using the new FIM 2 metre max method of testing.

FIM Homologated Silencers 1995
1995 FIM homologated silencer should be stamped with the following: Jawa FIM TRS – 95.01,
Jawa FIM TRS – 95.02, Jawa FIM TRS – 95.03, King FIM TRS – 95.04

Page 242 Rule 4.2 BRAKES
For Youth Competitions, all machines must be fitted with an effective brake on each wheel, with the exception, machines used in the International 125cc and 250cc Four Stroke class competitions where brakes are not allowed. Machines without brakes cannot compete in the same races as machines with brakes.
THIS IS INCORRECT AND NO RULES HAVE BEEN CHANGED THE FOLLOWING IS CORRECT:
Youth machines only require one effective brake fitted on either the front or rear wheel.
For clarification 500cc Sidecar machines DO NOT require brakes.

Page 245 Rule 4.15 SPECIFICATION OF THREE WHEELERS CATEGORY 1
Streamlining – Streamlining is not permitted. Streamlining is defined as any addition to the handlebars or to the frame of the machine, the effect of which is to shield the rider’s arms, legs or body from the air stream.
THIS REFERENCE IS INCORRECT and should be included in section 4.20 Number Plates and refer to solo machines only.
