The opening round of the 2011/2012 ACU British Supercross Championship promoted by Future West took place at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on Saturday night. With a bumper entry of riders looking to take an early advantage in the British Championship standing.
The evening started with all the excitement and glitz of the opening ceremonies before heading straight into the heat races for the SX Lites class. The opening heat race would see Nicolas Aubin, Tom Church and Matt Bayliss transfer directly into the SX Lites Final later in the evening. The second heat race would see Neville Bradshaw, Ashley Greedy and Luke Norris head into the final, along with Adam Chatfield, Lewis Gregory and James Dunn from the third final.
As the evening progressed it was time for the SX heat races to take place and in the opening heat Ashley Greedy took the win over Jack Brunell and Adam Chatfield. The second heat saw Martin Barr, Lewis Gregory and Stuart Edmonds progress to the final, before being joined by James Dunn, Brad Anderson and Tom Church.
Before the final took place there was still time for the Last Chance Qualifiers for both the SX Lites and SX classes. In the Lites it was Jack Brunell, Edward Allingham and Lewis King that advanced to the final, while in the SX class Nicolas Aubin, Nathan Parker and Neville Bradshaw sealed the final transfer spots. The final races to take place before the finals was the Head to Head races, which saw Stuart Edmonds steal the cash pot of over £500 after beating Brad Anderson to the race win in the one lap dash final.
The first final of the evening was the SX Lites class final and it was Neville Bradshaw that took the early race lead and ran away with the race victory ahead of Nicolas Aubin who battled his way into second place ahead of Adam Chatfield in third place. The SX class final saw an exciting race as Martin Barr stormed to the front for the opening laps until the hard charging Brad Anderson moved the Irishman aside to take the lead. Anderson was making good progress at the front until a crash in the whoops section opened the day for Adam Chatfield to capture the race win. Brad Anderson would eventually finish the race in second place ahead of Tom Church in third.
