Prospects for the future of the ACU British Supermoto Championship are to take an important step forward in 2010 following a meeting held with current Supermoto organisers, ACU British Supermoto Championships, Norasport, Southern Supermoto, Club Thundersport and Triple A Racing.
After lengthy discussions, in which all issues were addressed in a forthright and open manner, unanimous agreement was reached by all present that will see the championship held over seven two day meetings with two point scoring races each day, and with two classes, Elite and Junior.
The organising clubs Norasport and Southern Supermoto (SSM) will provide British Supermoto Championship (BSMC) with 90 minutes track time on each of the two days, with four meetings organised by Norasport, two meetings by Southern Supermoto and one meeting by Scottish Supermoto at their excellent Crail circuit.
The Management Committee will select 24 permanent riders and the organising clubs will nominate up to 20 of their best riders at each round for qualifying to ensure that the very highest standards are achieved. The permanent riders will register for the British Supermoto Championship and other riders from the organising clubs own championship will be given the opportunity to make a one event registration. Riders registered with the BSMC will be eligible to enter into the organising clubs own championship races using their ACU competition licence.
An ACU permit will be issued for the BSMC element of the meeting, and all riders will be required to hold ACU licences.
A number of venues are currently being assessed to ensure the best possible selection for the Championship, and a full list of dates and venues will be published as soon as the arrangements are concluded.
ACU Hon. Deputy Chairman, Frank Carter, commented that the total commitment of all parties in this agreement will now enable a good championship to develop into a great one and will also assist other clubs in promoting all aspects of Supermoto as a truly exciting branch of motorcycle sport for riders, sponsors and spectators alike.
