Wet dry, dry wet, was the order of the weekend at Anglesey. The weather played a big part over the weekend causing numerous tyre changing activity before each race. Even though the weather was miserable the racing didn’t disappoint.
The ACU National Supermono Championship sponsored by “Titan Beds” & “Moto12Twelve” had the top 3 duelling it out for podium positions. Jack Long is carrying a 22 point advantage going into this race over Ant Hart, so it was a must win for Hart to keep the championship alive to the final round at Mallory. Ant Hart had secured pole in qualifying with DD Racing team mates Jack Long and Joe Woodward taking up 2nd and 3rd on the font row respectively.
By lap 1 Long had moved into the lead closely followed by Hart and Woodward. Lap 2 saw Woodward move ahead of Hart and was in prime position to help his team mate to victory. The two steadily gained a few tenths of a second per lap on the leader Long and by lap 6 Hart had made a move on Woodward into 2nd. Hot on the heels of Long he knew it was a win it or bin it type of race. You could throw a blanket over the front 3 the racing was that close. Hart put a string of fast laps together and with his fastest lap of 1:14.079 in lap 7 he took the lead over Long. With clear track ahead Hart put in another couple of mid 1:14 laps to draw a couple of seconds lead over Long and Woodward. Result 1st Hart, 2nd Long, 3rd Woodward. A truly epic race worthy of an ACU National Championship. With Hart’s win this takes the Championship to the last round at Mallory 19th/20th September. Long still with a healthy 20 points lead needs to play it cool to secure the title. Woodward is in with a good shout to make it a DD Racing one two as he is only 6 points behind Hart. All to play for.
The Club championships saw a change at the top for the EVO class. Mike Edwards was leading going into Anglesey but a nasty high side in race 2 put pay to Edwards weekend leaving Jack Long and Ant Hart to make up some vital points. With Edwards out Hart took full advantage by winning the other 3 races. Long managed to get two 2nd’s, a 3rd and a 4th. (The 4th being on a borrowed Clubman’s bike). Resulting in Long now taking the EVO championship lead with an 8 points advantage over Hart. It’s going to be an epic, weekend of battling between Long and Hart to see who comes out on top.
The Clubman's Championship saw championship leader Mark Fairweather extend his lead over Doug Low. 3rd place Ian Higton needs some all out winning rides at Mallory to catch Doug Low for a chance of second place in the championship. Hefyn Owen joined us for Anglesey on his BMW/TZR-Rotax 650, managing to secure a second place in the 2nd race on Saturday. Dean Widdowson managed 3 out of 4 wins on his KTM 390. Gaining confidence in every race after his horrendous accident at Brands last year. Hopefully he will soon be back in the EVO class mixing it at the front.
