Donington Park, what a weekend! Never to disappoint, Donington Park provided some excellent racing over the weekend. With virtually a full grid of Monos there was the usual great battles throughout the field.
We had a group of riders travel all the way from Sweden to compete making this round a truly international affair. A massive thanks goes out to them for taking the time and effort to come over and race with Supermono GB. Great to meet you all.
The ACU National race, sponsored by “Titan Beds & Moto12Twelve”, saw an imperious Jack Long take the lead and stretch an 8 seconds lead over the rest of the field taking yet another victory for the championship. Swedish rider Bjorn Gunnarsson, Joe Woodward and Ant Hart were all full on for second place. Gunnarsson held second place for most of the race until the last lap where Woodward made a move on Gunnarsson and took second place. In doing so Hart also took his chance to pass Gunnarsson into third place. All 3 went over the line with only 0.3 seconds splitting them. A fantastic battle.
The club championships had the usual epic battles at the front in the EVO class between Jack Long and Mike Edwards. Joe Woodward and Ant Hart not far behind. Mike Edwards didn’t have it all his own way at this round. A starting issue in race 1 saw a 5th place for Edwards having to come from the back of the grid, leaving the DD Racing team mates to take 1st for Jack Long and a 2nd for Joe Woodward with Ant Hart 3rd. The 2nd and 3rd races were dominated by Edwards and Long. Edwards taking the 2nd race and Long taking the 3rd race. An epic 3rd race with Edwards leading all the way until the last lap where Long made his move and took the win. A fantastic moment for the ever improving Jack Long to beat Mike Edwards in a straight up head to head battle. With Woodward taking 3rd in both races DD Racing Team owners Dave & Dawn Birkinshaw plus crew were over the moon to say the least with the results of their riders.
The Clubman championship saw the return of Scotsman Steve Mason riding a lowly powered Yamaha SZR mixing it with Dean Widdowson, Mark Fairweather and Niel Bagley, all battling hard trading places. Three different winners in all 3 races. The Clubman class is an excellent starter class for beginners or for returning veterans that just want to have some competitive fun.
A big well done goes out to all the riders that compete in our championships. You guys and gals are what makes this series so good to watch and follow. Supermono GB is the only dedicated grid for Supermonos in the UK and all are welcome.
