The opening rounds of the ACU Trial GB Youth British Championship got off to a brilliant start on the 4th and 5th of April 2026. The first two rounds were held in Scotland at the Bob MacGregor Trials Park, where the hosting club delivered an excellent weekend of competition. Organisers did a superb job adjusting the severity of the sections across both days, providing riders with two events full of challenge and variety.
The course featured 10 sections ridden over three laps, combining both man-made and natural obstacles. Round 1 began under clear skies, but conditions quickly changed as rain swept in, increasing the severity of the sections early on. Alongside the wet conditions, cold temperatures made for a demanding day. With sections set slightly easier on paper, maintaining focus and avoiding small but costly mistakes proved crucial.
After a solid opening day, the sections were adjusted to provide a greater challenge for Round 2. The second day began with bright sunshine, offering a promising start, but the Bob MacGregor venue once again delivered a full range of weather—rain, wind, sun, hail, and even snow—testing riders’ adaptability throughout. The tougher sections, combined with ever-changing conditions, resulted in higher scores and pushed competitors to their limits.
The Aspire classes added further excitement across both rounds. In the Boys Aspire class, Round 1 saw Tomos Reese take the win with an impressive low score, followed closely by Straun Jagla in second and George Wareing in third. Round 2 brought a change at the top, with Joshua Tate bouncing back from an unfortunate 10th place in Round 1 to secure victory and revitalise his championship campaign. Straun Jagla maintained strong consistency with another second-place finish, while Tomos Reese took third, which was enough for him to hold the overall championship lead after the opening two rounds.
In the Aspire Girls class, Round 1 featured a closely contested battle at the top, with Lilly Wright claiming the win after a strong performance. Scarlett Collins finished second, narrowly behind, with Kasia Pedal-Dayment completing the podium in third. Round 2 proved more difficult, with higher scores across the board, but it was Scarlett Collins who rose to the challenge—improving from second to first and securing the championship lead. Lilly Wright followed in second place, with Kasia Pedal-Dayment again finishing third.
Overall, Rounds 1 and 2 provided a fantastic start to the Youth Championship, showcasing high levels of skill and determination across all classes and setting a strong benchmark for the remainder of the series.
