Official Statement from the ACU Trials Commission
Subject: Rider Eligibility Criteria for FIM Trial GP (all classes) and Trial EC (European Championship) (all Classes) The Auto-Cycle Union (ACU), as the officially affiliated body to the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) in the United Kingdom, holds the responsibility of ensuring full compliance with both FIM regulations and its own national regulatory and insurance frameworks. In line with these responsibilities, the ACU Trials Commission wishes to clarify and outline the eligibility criteria for riders seeking to compete in future FIM-sanctioned World and European Championship events, including TrialGP (all classes) and TrialEC (all classes) Key Criteria and Requirements: 1. Exclusive Access via ACU:
Participation in FIM World and European Championship events from the UK can only be facilitated through the ACU. No other organisation within the UK holds the authority to grant access to these FIM-sanctioned events. The ACU retains sole discretion to approve only those riders deemed to possess the necessary experience, skill, and competence to compete at international level. 2. National Championship Participation:
Riders must compete in an ACU British Championship (Trial GB/Trial GB Youth) or an FIM World or European Championship event in either the current or previous season to be considered for international entry or licensing. Engagement in the national championship is a critical indicator of readiness for international competition. 3. Competitive Standards:
Only riders who demonstrate competitiveness and consistency at ACU national championship level will be considered for participation in FIM-sanctioned World and European Championship events. Performance and consistency at this level are essential benchmarks for international eligibility. Closing Statement: While the ACU remains fully committed to supporting and developing rider talent across all levels of trials, it is imperative that any rider put forward for FIM & FIME international championship competition is assessed for their capability to compete safely and competitively on the world stage. As the authorising body, the ACU must uphold the highest standards to maintain the integrity and safety of the sport at international level. The ACU Trial Commission reserve the right to exercise discretion in exceptional circumstances.
