Sun Shines on the British Bike Rally Opener

Wednesday March 30, 2022 at 3:25pm

Uncharacteristic sun in West Wales for the opening weekend of the 2022 ACU Rally bike championship was well received by competitors and marshals alike. Hosted at DDBC’s regular Brynllewelyn Farm venue, the season got under way with round one and two of this popular championship. The club work hard with Natural Resources Wales, landowners and other forest users to maximise enjoyment while minimising risk and inconvenience.

On day one overall, Tom James on the MotoFit Yamaha 250 blazed the trail, with second going to Dominic Wilson and third to Wynne Pickersgill. In the Rally 1 class, Harry Evans picked up the win, In the trail class, T1 was won by Thomas Herring, T2 by David Nellis and in the big bike category, Lee Salt won the T3 group.

For the second day, the overall was headed by Forest of Dean rider Arran Wells, who won by over a minute from Rob Breakwell with Wynne Pickersgill again picking up third. Osian Jones led the way in Rally 1, and in the Trail class, Herring again led the class. David Nellis was again the Trail 2 winner and Shaun Atkinson won the big bike class, despite Lee Salt setting a faster test 1 time.

Entries for the event sold out quickly, suggesting that riders are keen to get out riding - a great start from the DDBC club.
