Waterlooville Set for the 2021 'Stellar Despatch’ British Upright Grasstrack Championship

Waterlooville Motorcycle Club are delighted to present the 2021 'Stellar Despatch’ British Upright Grasstrack championship meeting on Sunday 4th July and a bumper entry has been attracted across all classes.

The club, running its first meeting since 2019, which also incorporates the 90th anniversary Southern Centre Championships and it is set to be a fantastic day’s racing, with all 2019 British Upright Championship winners Chris Mackett (250cc) Luke Harris (350cc) and Bob Dolman (500cc) back to defend their titles. Some other stand out names from the early entries in the 500cc upright championships include Tony Atkin, Rodney Mcdonald, Jason Prynne, Darren Phillips, Tim Curnock, Mark Taylor, Mike Dowling, 350cc uprights include Dave Mears and Wayne Broadhurst. While the 250cc upright classes includes former champion Richard Warry, Phil Ranson, Chris Malone, and Giles Dinsmore.

As a club we are delighted over the moon that 4 x British Masters Champion, 2 x European Champion and World Longtrack competitor James Shanes headlines the southern centre championship line up, and Kent Speedway’s Jake Mulford who looked so impressive at the Battle of Britain and former Eastbourne Eagle speedway star Charley Powell are sure to give chase. Rob Wilson/Terry Saunters, Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb, Kieran Hicks/Kieron Ivy headline the 1000cc Sidecars.  These riders on top of a bumper 250cc class including Bantasia 1 winner Cameron Taylor and former British Champion Graham Thomas, A small but competitive 350cc solo class promises to produce some exciting battles with former British champion Tony Atkin doubling up, Battle of Britain winner Mark Giles and Neil Taylor who won the centre championships back in 1996 and 1997 and is sure to be amongst the front runners.

The meeting takes place at the club’s usual venue of Whaddon Farm, Owslebury, Winchester, SO21 1JJ and the track will be signposted from Junction 11 of the M3 and the B2177 Bishops Waltham Road (follow the brown signs to Marwell Zoo). On the day itself will be the usual amenities including hot food, flush toilets, and a variety of trade stalls.

The action starts at 11;00am for practice with tapes up for the first of 48 races at 12;30pm and the club are delighted to welcome back spectators to the superb Whaddon farm venue where Bantasia 1 was so successfully run.

Camping is available from Midday Saturday 3rd July until Midday on Monday 5th July.
