FIM Sustainability Week - Letter from the FIM President

Every June since 1996, the FIM have supported and celebrated the United Nations World Environment Day, an opportunity that they have taken advantage of to highlight and celebrate the achievements in the field of environmental protection and sustainability during the year.

Below is an Open Letter from the FIM President regarding the FIM Sustainability Week and how member Countries and Organsiers can get involved for 2021.

After a long year of extraordinary situations, we have revamped our sustainability strategy. We have analysed the priority areas, which we will focus on over the next five years. We have aligned this strategy with the global objectives. One of the priority areas is raising awareness about the importance of preserving our common path, our planet, how to protect it, and how to restore it.

That is why we have also incorporated new regulations into the FIM Environmental Code. We are investing in scientific studies that help us better understand the relationship of our sport with biodiversity, with ecosystems and how we can contribute to restoring and protecting them. We have several examples of coexistence between motorcycling and ecosystems. We have significant cases of studies of support by motorcycling clubs and National Federations relating to ecosystems with endangered species and a few other cases of forest restoration and conservation within motorcycling circuits.

This year we want to go further. The Board of Directors have approved, at the request of the FIM Sustainability Commission, the FIM Sustainability Week. We are aware that work focused on sustainability must be part of daily operations and be within our sports and sector DNA. However, we want to dedicate this Sustainability Week to celebrate the achievements and raise awareness in our great family.

This will serve to strengthen community ties in our FIM family further, and I invite you to participate with the same sportive enthusiasm and promote and organise activities that can contribute to the sustainability of our sport.
