Section Marking and Severity

Four Routes

1. Yellow Route (A Class). Pairs of Yellow flags. Much larger obstacles in terms of rocks, logs, hills, drops and climbs. This is a steppingstone to being able to compete at British Championship level.

2. 50% Yellow Route & White (B Class).

3. White Route (C Class). Pairs of White Flags for accomplished riders with good bike control. Quite a bit harder than Green and can initially be quite a step, in terms of severity. Basically, slightly larger obstacles, steeper with tighter turns, in effect much more technical. Most riders will be on 20.0 or 24.0.

4. Green Route (D Class). Pairs of Green flags for the slightly more experienced and confident young rider. Similar too Green/Orange route but you can include drops and hills and smaller obstacles e.g. small rocks and tree roots. A bit more of a challenge to teach more accurate bike control. Most riders on this route will be on 16.0 or 20.0 so take into account wheel size and turning circle for example.

5. Green Route with Orange deviations (E Class). Pairs of Green and Orange flags for total beginners. Marked out with turns mostly on flatter ground in and out of trees with very few if any obstacles. No steep drops or hills as some riders are only on small wheel bikes.

Scoring- STOP ALLOWED.

• White and Yellow Routes will be marked as per adults.

• Green Route. A small bit of outside assistance if there is a larger obstacle but basically just the odd push if stuck. All other marking as per adult rules. Lenient observing but realistic. It is all about rewarding actual effort to improve.

• Green Route with Orange deviations Route.

Firstly, outside assistance is allowed in this class throughout the section.

You will get HOVER FEET where they ride along with feet off the footrests but without actually touching the floor. Observers will keep a close eye on this as it will help in getting a winner. Observers will be very lenient!!!!! If they complete the section from start to end cards a 3 even with assistance. If they fall off get back on and complete the section it is a 3. A 5 will only be given if they fail to complete or miss flags.
