Sidcup and District MCC Timber Woods LDT 2020, to be run on 18th April 2021

Thursday February 25, 2021 at 4:22pm

The Route has been finalised and the club have applied for MSA Authorisation. The RLO’s (Route Liaison Officers) for Kent and Surrey have approved the route.

We Start and Finish at Canada Heights, head west through Swanley Village, to Jackson’s Gully, and then south on tarmac back lanes to Hogtrough Hill, Westerham. Through Biggin Hill, working our way to Pitchfont Lane, also known as Titsey Hill. Further south through Oxted to Crockham Hill and then back eastward to Sevenoaks Weald and a loop round Underriver to the Quarry at St Julians for our lunch stop, more details later. Into Sevenoaks for two petrol stops. East to Oldbury Hill then south to Rats Castle, before working our way back north to Wrotham Heath and the Pilgrims way which we follow back to Canada Heights via Knatts Valley. We make no secret that there are more tarmac back lanes than there are green Byways. Total mileage is 82 miles.

We have provisionally arranged with Graham Marchant and Huntsman MCC, a Covid secure lunch stop at the Quarry, St Julian’s Lane, Underriver. Riders will choose between a Burger, Sausage Bap or Bacon Bap when they enter the event. Huntsman will have the food cooked ready and a riders list. The rider will give their number and their choice of food will be put on the table for them it pick up. They will self-serve with tea or coffee from the urn. There should be no contact between the caterers and the riders and no monies will change hands. A £5 donation from each rider will be made to the Kent/Sussex/Surrey Air Ambulance and is included in the entry fee.

Alan Clarke has agreed to be Clerk of Course for the event. Peter Burrell will be Secretary of Meeting, and we will need Observers for Canada Heights, for the morning and afternoon. And two or three Observers at The Quarry.

Proposed timeline is;

6th March 6.00am Open Entries, Online only on ACU entry portal. Entry Limit 100

11th April Close Entries, unless full earlier.

15th April email out Final Instructions and Roadbook.

We are planning to run the 2021 TWLDT on the 18th July 2021, but we keep our options open as to the Start Finish, either the Gliding Club or Canada Height depending on the COVID-19 situation.
