Palin Wins at Scunthorpe

Defending British Youth Champion Jordan Palin won the first round of this year’s series in a hugely successful opener at Scunthorpe on Sunday.

Palin held off the strong challenge of Dan Thompson in a re-started 500cc Final after hitting the fence on the second bend in the initial running, with the referee ruling nobody was at fault.

Archie Freeman took third place in a close finish on the line ahead of Joe Thompson, at the conclusion of British Speedway’s first grassroots event staged with a crowd since lockdown.

Palin, who would have ridden for Scunthorpe this season, said: “I wanted to come here and show the fans what I can do, because I signed for them last year but they obviously don’t know much about me.

“It was close racing but that’s what the fans want really, so it was good to put on a little show, and it was definitely good to get the victory. It’s a great night for me and my team.”

The 250cc class was won by Max James, who went through the card with victories in all five of his rides, whilst William Cairns took the honours at 125cc level. The support class, also at 125cc, was won by Billy Budd
