Midshires Grasstrack Club regret to announce in consultation with the ACU and FIM Europe the cancellation of the 2020 FIME Solo Grasstrack Final in Leamington Spa, United Kingdom on 16th August 2020 due to the impact of the worldwide Covid 19 pandemic.
The club have been working hard behind the scenes on preparations for this big event but primarily due to concerns for the health and safety of riders, officials and spectators in protecting everyone from the virus and ensuring social distancing is complied with, the club have decided that it would be in the best interests of the sport to keep everyone safe to cancel the event.
In addition, at present the UK government have a 14-day quarantine for anyone entering the country currently and complying with other Government guidelines present practical difficulties that can only dilute the appeal of what should be an outstanding event.
Clive Davies, Midshires GTC Chairman said “everyone involved in the club are extremely disappointed to have to make this decision, but the important thing is we can all sleep at night knowing that everyone is safe and well. We would like to thank all our sponsors and helpers who had agreed to support the event and we hope to be given the opportunity to stage the FIME Individual Grass Track Final in 2021 where we will put on the high quality event that the riders and spectators deserve in a safer environment for everyone. Midshires GTC hope everyone in the world of Track Racing keeps safe and well and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Midshires GTC in 2021.”
Tony Steele, ACU Track Racing Chairman said “It was an agonising but unavoidable decision that has the full backing of the Track Racing Committee given the current circumstance, but the safety of all concerned is paramount. The club earned the opportunity to stage this prestigious final having demonstrated last year their ability to host major events and hopefully a return to a safer environment will enable them to do so again in 2021 “.
