David Baybutt

The ACU are saddened to confirm that David Baybutt passed away on Monday 11th May aged 72 and Track Racing lost one of its true superstars.

Born in Wrightington, Wigan, he, along with his brother Chris, was a dominant force in Track Racing in the seventies and early eighties winning four British championships along with other major events.

His major successes were in the 250cc class where he was almost unbeatable on his Honda Red Rocket, David won the British 250cc Grass Track championship on four occasions over a 12 year period.
After retiring from racing David helped to promote Track Racing as a Director of Rivington Barnstormers Ltd Grass Track Club and he also worked with the ACU Track Racing Committee to promote British Championship Sand Racing Events on the beaches of North West England. David also raced at Belle View speedway for one season in 1966.

Outside of the sport, David managed a highly successful property development business with his brother Chris.

He will be missed by many.
