This Sunday August 4th the Point-S South West Masters Motocross Championships makes its way down to Cornwall to Landrake Moto Parc for the penultimate round in the 5 round series. At the last round at Little Silver Championship leader Luke Hawkins on the Cheddar MX Honda was involved in a real tussle in all three races with Todd Kellett on the Dragon Tek/St Blazey Yamaha who took the overall after taking two wins to Hawkins one so the battle could be on again as Kellett returns and for sure will be looking to move up from 7th in the current standings. Hawkins goes in to the penultimate round leading the 24MX Championship by 42 points from the Tony Maunders Racing Suzuki of Jamie Skuse with Rob Cross who is in top form at the moment there in 3rd just 32 points adrift of Skuse, but there is plenty of other talent looking to do well like Ross Kersey on the St Blazey Honda, Josh Taylor, Luke Oldfield, Ben Butler, Ross Parkinson, Lewis and Bradley Barfoot and Jack Stevens plus wildcard entries from the Phoenix Tools British Championship team riders Carlton Husband and Jason Meara with many more expected. In the JCT Developments Junior Championship things have got really tight at the top of the standings after the last round with Daniel Wade who will be on home soil still leading, but only 6 points from Kieran Yorke who for sure will be looking to close that gap even more at Landrake, but it won’t be plain sailing as there is many others capable of winning like Maverick Smith, Thomas Townrow, Harry Mitchell, Rocky Lethaby, Harry Day, Michael Merrick to name a few plus many wildcards like young 15 year old Cornish kid Louie Kessell who also will be on home soil and for sure will be looking to repeat his performance from round 3 where he took the overall on the day. In the Wulfsport Over 35 Championship the door has been left open as Championship leader who has yet to be beaten Wayne Shimell is a non-starter after breaking his wrist which means that we could have a new Championship leader after round 4 and favourite to do that will be the Cheddar MX Honda of Darren Banwell who sits second in the standings and trails Shimell by 31 points with 2-Stroke Tony Maunders Racing KTM rider James Kensington just 16 points behind Banwell in 3rd, but as with other rounds this class has proved very popular and has the likes of Peter Bulley, Mike Burgess, Matt Wells, Luke Dewey, Julian Turner and Ben Harmon on the 300cc 2-Stroke KTM who returns after missing the last round plus many more all looking to move up in the standings. In the Over 45 class it’s the J D Racing KTM of Leigh Williams who leads the Championship by 27 points from David Ford on the 2-Stroke Projuice Husqvarna with Welshman Dean Davies another Tony Maunders Racing rider on the Husqvarna a further 37 points adrift in 3rd, but as with the Over 35,s there is plenty of other talent looking to do well like Robert Topp, Neil Stephens, Richard Tapscott, Wayne Slater and Paul Ford to name a few. Landrake Moto Parc is an excellent viewing track with easy parking and will be signposted off the A38 just 5 Minutes South of the Tamar Bridge (Postcode PL12 5EP) with the first race at 10-30am.
