Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship Heads for Blaxhall for Fifth Year on June 2nd
Sunday 2nd June will see the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean head to the Blaxhall Circuit in Suffolk, hosted by the Woodbridge and DMCC. The event features a bumper line up with 160 of the country’s best riders competing across four classes.

The fourth round of this prestigious championship is sure to provide thrills and spills on the spectacular sandy venue just off the A12 when the action starts at 9am with practice and qualifying. The race programme features an exciting line up of eight races include two 25 minutes plus 2 lap motos for both the MX1 and MX2 classes – and two championship races for the MX2 Youth and a new line up of Youth 85cc Support riders.

For the host club, Woodbridge and DMCC the return of the event for the fifth year running, is testament to the standard of the venue, their organisation, which even saw them named as ‘Maxxis Organiser of the Year’ for the past three years running.

In the MX1 class the battle at the front of the Championship is between two former champions Shaun Simpson (RFX KTM powered by PAR Homes) and Tommy Searle (BOS Factory Holeshot Kawasaki). Both riders will be head to Blaxhall after competing at the previous three Grand Prix’s and with just 8 point separating the pair the racing is sure to be close.

Local interest comes from Bury St Edmunds rider Lewis Tombs who currently sits third in the championship standings following a great start to the season onboard his Buildbase Honda. Tombs was a late addition to the MX1 class after taking a replacement rider for the injured Jake Nicholls and took his first ever British Championship podium at the opening round and has never looked back. Tombs is a regular at the Blaxhall Circuit and will be looking to take another trip onto the podium at the end of the day.

Other local riders to look out for include Chelmsford’s Ryan Houghton, current Eastern ACU Expert Champion Shaun Southgate along with Luke Benstead, Connor Hughes and Declan Whittle.

In the MX2 class Swedish Grand Prix rider Alvin Ostlund currently leads the Championship by 1 point over reigning champion Conrad Mewse, who will unfortunately miss the event after injuring his wrist at the previous round. With Mewse missing from the meeting the battle at the front will be very close between Ostlund, Dylan Walsh, Josh Gilbert, Martin Barr and Bas Vaessen as the top 6 are all separated by just 27 points.

Local riders to watch out from in the MX2 class include Ben Clark and Tom Grimshaw who will both be looking to use they track knowledge at Blaxhall to good advantage and record some impressive results in the two races.

Blaxhall also features the fourth round of the MX2 Youth Championship which features the leading youth riders from across the country. Joel Rizzi currently leads the championship after taking victory at all the three previous rounds. In second place is the hard charging Ike Carter who will be looking to take more race wins and close the gap in the Championship.

The final class competing at Blaxhall is a Youth 85cc support class. This is the first time the Blaxhall Circuit has hosted a 85cc class alongside the British Championship and with a line up of top National and Local youth riders it is sure to produce some exciting racing for the crowd as the future stars battle for the top honours. Riders to look out for include top Nationals Ollie Colmer and Sam Atkinson, while local interest comes from Freddie Wyard (Ipswich), Thomas Harris (Norwich) and brothers Kiean and Ashton Boughen (Kings Lynn)

The event is supported by SMT GB, while Foxwood Trade will be sponsoring the Holeshot Award in all classes and Steve Lumley Planing Ltd have helped with supporting the venue development.

Blaxhall Circuit is located just off the A12 north of Woodbridge and if using Sat Nav please use the postcode IP17 1LG, the circuit will be signposted from that point. All the action starts at 8:45am with the Qualifying sessions followed by the first main race at 10:55am.
