Pinhard Trophy 2018 Winner - Ryan Vickers

The Sunbeam MCC is delighted to announce that 19 year old Road Racer Ryan Vickers has been adjudged the winner of The Pinhard Trophy for 2018.

This is one of the UK’s most prestigious awards, the giant 3-gallon cup having been presented since 1950 to the best Under-21 year old sporting motorcyclist competing under ACU or SACU jurisdiction.

2018 has been an outstandingly successful year for Ryan taking the British 600 Superstock Title by winning 10 out of 12 races, of the other 2 he scratched from one to take a wild card in World Supersport and fell in the other whilst leading. Ryan was a British Youth Motocross Champion and moved over to the tarmac in 2016 finishing 2nd in the Thundersport series on a Honda CB500. He moved to Superstock in 2017 and took most of the year to adjust gaining 3rd 2nd and 1st in the last 3 races

On hearing of his win Ryan said, " I am so happy to have won this prestigious trophy, this has been running for many many years and lots of very famous people have also won this trophy, so I am blessed to now be a part of that list! I would like to Thank all the judges and people that put my name forward for this, also Thankyou to all the organisers for their hard work of presenting this award every year!!"

Ryan faced stiff competition and voting was extremely close.  Presentation of the Trophy will be at the ACU Awards Dinner on 26th January.

Previous winners are a list of motorcycling greats over the last 68 years who have excelled in all spheres of the sport including Mike Hailwood, Jeff Smith, Bill Martin, Roy Peplow, Dan Shorey, Scott Ellis, Alexz Wigg and a host of others who have gone on to be national and international household names. Last year’s winner was grass Track and Speedway rider Luke Harris.

Sunbeam MCC awards the trophy in memory of Frederick William Pinhard who died in 1948 whilst serving as Secretary of the Club.

Judges were editors of leading motorcycle periodicals, General Secretary of the ACU, President of Sunbeam MCC and 2 officials appointed by Sunbeam MCC.
