Maxxis British Sidecar Championships

The fourth round of the MAXXIS British Sidecarcross championships took place at Little Loveney Hall, Wakes Colne on 9th September hosted by the Halstead MCC. In timed practice Series leaders Brett Wilkinson / Dan Chamberlain were incredibly quick setting a time just under three seconds quicker than second placed Gary Moulds with birthday boy Steve Kirwin in the chair. They in turn were a further three seconds faster than the third placed team Jake Brown / Zac Snell.

After a small track modification had been completed the gate dropped for the opening moto. Hodges / Ide took the holeshot from Campbell / Parmenter with Pelling / Pannell in third and Wilkinson in about sixth. Before the lap had been completed Hodges had the mousse come out of his rear tyre and Campbell had a front wheel problem. Hodges came into the working area, changed the wheel and rejoined the race but Campbell did not continue.

At the end of the first lap Wilkinson had now worked his way to the front with Brown in second and Moulds in third. From the second lap onwards the leading ten teams played follow my leader with place changes at all. Such was the speed of Wilkinson the he started to lap the slowest riders in just under eight and half minutes! Hodges rejoined the race in dead last place but managed to work his way up to finish in eleventh.

In the second race Wilkinson powered up the hill to take the holeshot from Moulds with Hodges in third. The front two pulled away and finished in that order. Hodges came under pressure from Brown and managed to hold him off for seven laps but on lap eight Brown made his move and went on to finish third.

In the final race of the day Wilkinson again led from gate to flag. Moulds was in second place until nearly half distance when just after a right hand bend his engine stopped. While he was restarting the motor Brown nipped past and went on to finish second with Mould coming home in third.

The battle for fourth and fifth places went on all race long between Hodges and Campbell. Hodges led for the first half of the race until Campbell got past but the Irishman only held the position for two laps and Hodges was past again.

They continued to the finish in that order.Wilkinson now leads the championship by forty nine points from Moulds with Brown a further twenty one points behind in third.

In the Experts class Balsillie / Haynes are forty nine points ahead of Oldfield / Phelps.

The penultimate round of the championship will be at Canada Heights on 7th October.
