Bumper Weekend of Racing at Darley Moor
The Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Club prepare to enter the second half of their Championship season with a double header this coming weekend when Rounds 4 and 5 take place at the Darley Moor Motor Sports Centre, Near Ashbourne (DE6 2ET) on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th August 2018.

With each class having four races over the two days the championship tables have the potential to look totally different on the other side of the weekend. Teams will have to ensure their machines are meticulously prepared to capitalise on the points available, any machine failure, rider error, or just a ‘racing incident’ could thwart any

championship aspirations. Four races for each class is one thing, but then many riders are racing in multiple classes, some on an additional machine, others on the same machine which then increases the potential for an ‘issue’ of some sort. Missing out on points this weekend means there are just two remaining rounds, the final round with double points on offer for one long race per class, to overturn any deficit in the Championship standings.

With the schools now finished until September this forthcoming weekend could be an ideal opportunity to pack the children, and dog(s) into the car for a cheap weekend away with your tent or caravan and let others provide the

entertainment. There is ample room for spectators to camp and caravan at Darley Moor over the race weekends. The cost is £5.00 per unit per night. Camping will normally be available from 4.00 pm on the Friday evening until 10.00 am on the day after the meeting or by special arrangement with the circuit management – Call 01335 343833. Come along and cheer your local competitors on and help keep them in the hunt for silverware.

Just a quick look at the Championship tables will show there is plenty of local interest towards the top of each class:

Harry Jackson (Mansfield) currently leads the Peak Cup class by 9points from Ben Scranage (Bolton), whilst the

tables are turned in the Open Solo class with Scranage holding a 6point advantage over Jackson with Richard Eglin (Derby) a further 14 points short of the top spot. Lloyd Shelley (Burntwood) is currently 3rd in Peak Cup, with a 15point deficit to the head of the table, but he does head the Formula 600 class; Matt Zschiesche (Biddulph) and

Jamie Pearson (Derby) are just 5 and 6points adrift respectively. However, Pearson does hold a commanding 21point advantage in the Pre-Injection (Up to 1300cc) class over another Derby rider, Adam Walters, with Anthony Froggatt (Worksop) a further 2 points behind, in 3rd.

Anthony Eades/Keith Box (Hyde/Wolverhampton) are just 1point behind the leaders of the Open Sidecar class, Steve Thomas/Neil Aslaksen (Wirral)). Roger and Bradley Stockton (Winsford/Crewe) lead the Formula 600 Sidecars by 12 points from Tony Baker/Mike Killingsworth (Sutton Coldfield/Lincs).

Anthony Porter (Chesterfield) is just 3points adrift of leader, Dave Marsden (Wirral) in the Steel Framed 600 Class. On track at the same time as these will be the Pre-Injection class, the top three separated by just 2 points; Andrew

Scanlon (Thatcham) leading, Andrew Lowe (Stone) just 1point behind, then Tim Walsh (Buxton) a further single point behind him.

High Peak racers, James Ford and Chris Moore are the ones to beat in the Lightweight class, Ford current-ly heading the Championship by 3 points from Moore, with another 15 points separating these competi-tors from Samuel Grief (Derby) in 3rd place. At the last round Moore entered a machine in the Classic 350 class and not only won the class, but took the overall win, in a race normally won by a Classic 1000 ma-chine.

Daz Bellworthy (Derby) is currently lying 2nd in the CB500 Championship, just 5points split him from the top spot held by Andy Whale (Birmingham).

The timetable for both days racing is identical with Practice scheduled to start at 10am and the first race anticipated to start at 11.30am. The cost of adult admission to Darley Moor for all meetings, except the end of season Stars at Darley meeting, is £12.00 per day, children under 16 are free, and Senior Citizens are £8.00. Parking and Paddock Transfer is free and a programme costs just £3.00. Adult admission to the Test Days is £6.00, Senior Citizens 65 and over £4.00.

For the Stars at Darley event on 9th October the adult admission price is £16.00 and Senior Citizens £10.00.
