RT Keedwell ACU British Trials Championship – Final Round Report
The final two rounds of the R T Keedwell sponsored ACU British Trials Championships took place last weekend. The venue was the Bob MacGregor Trials Academy just south of Glasgow.

All three categories were still to be decided although A Class rider Billy Green was in such a good position only a few more points were required.

In the main Championship it was really a two-way battle between Jack Price and Jack Sheppard. Sheppard on his Beta won the Saturday event with Toby Martyn second and Jack Price third. Run in superb weather conditions Sheppard posted a 3 mark win his advantage coming from superb rides at the ‘Waterfall’ section. Now the points gap was down to 1 going into Round 8 and the conditions were about to change with some wild weather sweeping in for day 2.

In the Experts James Fry ran out a clear winner from James Stones and Keiran Child both of whom were posting their best results of the season. With series leader Richard Sadler down in eighth place on the day the contest was also very close but Fry was now leading by four points.

Billy Green took another win in the Youth A group and the title was his. So far seven wins from seven events. Scots rider Duncan MacColl finished second with Olly Smith third. Smith was now lying on equal pints with Josh Hanlon so there was much to play for in the 125cc group.

Sundays event was held in very wet conditions but the sections stood up well. Billy Green took his eighth win to post a 100% record for 2017 in the Youth A class. Duncan MacColl and Josh Hanlon came home second and third and that was how they finished overall in the series.

The Experts was to be decided between James Fry and Richard Sadler but neither was to be on the podium. Luke Walker took the win from Tom Affleck and Hugo Jervis. Sadler finished fifth and Fry seventh but it was James who was pretty amazed to find out he had just done enough for the title taking the Class by two points.

We saw a new British Champion crowned when Jack Price won the number 1 plate for next year. Jack had to settle for second on the day after a brilliant win was posted by fellow Gas Gas rider Dan Peace. Toby Martyn completed a great weekend for him by taking another podium finish on the Vertigo.
