National Finals at Santa Pod Raceway this weekend

The final round of the 2017 ACU Championships takes place on the 23rd-24th September at Santa Pod Raceway.

 

Top Fuel Bike.

Multi-time and reigning ACU Top Fuel Bike Champion Steve Woollatt leads the championship by 320 points and will be trying to run 6.1sec with the new fuel and clutch set up.  Neil Midgley is second in the points and ran 6.76 at the European Finals.  Rene Van Den Berg missed the European Finals but is entered for this event.  Al Smith has been testing Phil Baimbridge new fuel bike and will be making his debut in competition at this event.

 

Funny Bike.

Allan Davies has a 400 points lead over Reigning ACU Funny Bike Champion Phil Crossley coming into this event.  Dave Peters has repaired his gearbox issue from the last round.  Lorcan Parnell had an oil pump problem at the European Finals and has run 6.8 this year.  Stefan Hagenstein ran a personal best at Hockenheim.  Pete Le Gros has the Nitro Harley running in the seven-second bracket and one to keep an eye on.

 

Comp Bike

There are sixteen bikes entered for the event.  Reigning ACU Comp Bike Champion Eddy Smiley has a 315 points lead and was off the pace at the last round.  Mick Winyard won the Open Sports Nationals to move him into second place.  Sean Mills is 55 points behind Winyard and has run 7.5sec here at Santa Pod.  Martin Walker is 30 point further behind and ran his first seven-second here at Santa Pod.  Scott Collier ran a career best of 7.51 at Shakespeare County in the last round of the championship.  Tony Clark is another who has run mid 7sec.  Former champion Kevin Osman is another rider who runs in the 7secs.  The race is wide open.

 

Super Street Bike

2017 European FIM Super Street Bike Cup Champion Richard Stubbins leads the ACU Championship by 85 points is ahead of Graham Balchin who won the Open Sports Nationals last month.  Pete Field is 205 points behind Stubbins.  Steve Venables might shake things up if he can find his 7.0s form.

 

Pro Stock Bike.

Ian Burns is the only Pro Stock Bike rider entered for the event.
