ACU Statement: International Gold Cup - Olivers Mount - Scarborough- Sunday 24th September
Following two serious incidents which unfortunately resulted in a number of spectators being hospitalised, the decision was taken to abandon the remainder of the meeting following the second incident which took place in Race 3.

The injured spectators were transferred to hospital for further assessment and treatment.  Twelve people were injured of which three were serious.

Jamie Coward, the rider involved in the first incident was unhurt but shaken and likewise Daley Mathieson, the rider involved in the second incident appeared to have not suffered any injuries but, again was left very shaken.

The Auto Cycle Union as governing body will fully investigate the circumstances of these incidents in conjunction with the circuit and organiser.

Paul King, Chairman of the Road Race, Drag & Sprint Committee commented, 'What has happened at Olivers Mount is extremely sad and unfortunate, but thankfully rare.  The ACU take the safety of any Circuit very seriously, and the safety of spectators is of paramount importance.  We will therefore be carrying out a full investigation into the two incidents.  On behalf of the ACU, I would like to send my very best wishes to all those that were injured and my thanks to the Marshals, Medical staff and Police for dealing with the two incidents in such a professional manner'.
