Wessex Plant Hire (Bristol) are once again providing sponsorship for the 2017 season, which kicks off on Sunday 19th March, with The Doncaster Cup Trial, organized by the very enthusiastic Mansfield Maun MCC.
As in previous year’s the event will start at 10.00am from The Miners Standard, Winster, Derbyshire, DE4 2HP. Terry Crabtree and his band of helpers have planned a 40 Section course consisting of seven Groups of sections spread over 2 Laps with an eleven mile route.
Hoping to repeat last year’s triumph will be current British Champions Nigel Crellin/Chris Molyneux aboard their 300cc Scorpa. They will come under pressure from five times previous Champions and last year’s runners-up Jon Tuck/Matt Sparkes on their 300cc TRS UK sponsored outfit, and the up and coming crew of Josh/Luke Golding also on a 300cc TRS UK.
The Intermediate Class will see last year’s Clubman winners James (Squares) Caine/Beth Thomas on a 300cc GasGas, hoping to make it two championships in successive years, however they will have competition from Tony Jones/Jamie (Brucie) Howe on a 300cc Beta and Dave Tuck/Joe Newman on a 300cc TRS UK.
The Clubman Class appears to be the most open for a number of years with regulars Paul Fishlock/Debbie Merrell, Phil Sparkes/Steve Chandler, being joined by last years winning Newcomers Jack Corlett/Sophie May-Hardie and fellow Isle of Man residents Gaz Temple/Damian Owen who probably start as favourites.
It looks as though the Newcomers Class will again be dominated by riders from
The Isle of Man, but you never know.
