World Superbike Champion Starts the Foundation Work at Joey Dunlop Foundation Holiday Complex

Joey Dunlop Foundation’s three holiday apartments, designed and equipped for people with disabilities and special needs, have been operational since 2010. Traditionally the apartments are open from March until January and have provided holiday accommodation for people of all ages with a wide range of disabilities.

With an ever-increasing demand for this type of holiday accommodation, the Charity’s Trustees agreed that, after ongoing fundraising, construction work would start in the Autumn, to ensure that five apartments would be operational by April 2017.

A highlight for Joey’s charity was when local resident Jonathan Rea agreed to call down to Braddan Bridge to dig the first foundations.

With his father racing against Joey in the 1980's, Jonathan was impressed with our superb facilities and we hope to welcome him back to the provisional grand opening date, Mad Sunday 2017.

Kevin Quirk, trustee and holiday complex manager said:

“When the Charity’s objectives were discussed fifteen years ago, it was apparent that there was a shortage of disabled-friendly accessible facilities on the Island. We believe that the success of JDF apartments has been a catalyst for other holiday providers to expand into this market. With demand far exceeding our greatest expectations, it is essential that the additional apartments are completed before summer 2017. Capacity will increase from twelve to eighteen beds. My task is now to ensure that the facilities are fully occupied”.

The Charity’s existing facilities are equipped to the highest standards and described as the best in the British Isles. The specialist equipment is very expensive and the Charity appeals to Joey fans to arrange a fundraising event or simply purchase merchandise from the website shop.
