Jenkinson’s Hat-Trick of ‘Anglesey Grand’ Wins
The Wirral Hundred club’s iconic end-of-season ‘Anglesey Grand’ meeting attracted its highest entry ever, and saw the two legs of the feature race dominated by National Superstock 1000 front-runner Adam Jenkinson on his NEI Motorsport BMW whose overall victory was his third ‘Grand’ in succession.  Jenkinson’ s intentions were very clear after a qualifying lap that was 2.5 seconds better than Chris Barnes (AP Broome BMW) in second, and in the 12-lap first leg Jenkinson won by an impressive 27 seconds from Barnes with another National Superstock 1000 runner Mike Booth (Active Copier Systems Kawasaki)  not far behind in third. The battle of the race was for fourth position where at the end just 1.5 seconds covered Rob Varey, David Jones, John Robb and Max Wadsworth, Varey and Wadsworth being the best of the 600’s.

An unfortunate coming together on the warm-up lap for the second leg saw Mike Booth side-lined, and after a delay the race was reduced to 11 laps, but this made little difference to Jenkinson and Barnes, who cleared off in similar style to the first leg. This time circuit specialists David Jones (Fireball Racing Kawasaki) and Jamie Harris (Electrico BBR Yamaha 600), headed Rob Varey and Joe Ravenscroft in the battle for the lower leaderboard placings. On aggregate then the first three were Adam Jenkinson, Chris Barnes and David Jones, whilst Rob Varey won the Award for the best 600.

The meeting also saw Gary Thwaites (500 Matchless) win the David Swallow Memorial Race for single-cylinder classic bikes, and after the final round of races in the Wirral Hundred championships the 2016 winners are Jamie Devine (Formula 600), Matt Jones (Powerbikes), Barry Furber (650 Twins & Anglesey Lightweight Open), John Price (100-500cc Allcomers & Forgotten Era), Chris Ganderton (Pre-injection), Jon Wright (Golden Era Superbikes & Golden Era Supersport), Hefyn Owen (Classics), and Michael Jackson & Scott Hardie (Sidecars), whilst Jamie Devine and Matt Jones were joint winners of the Anglesey Senior Open.
